I agree, and there is also a part of me that wants to see this new system crash and burn. The money bag chasing, along with the constant conference realignment churn, just makes me less and less interested in college athletics all the time.

    • Go Shockers - Wichita State, Influencer Launch Shocker NIL Exchange

Wichita State Athletics, in partnership with Influencer, has launched Shocker NIL Exchange to connect student-athletes and businesses for name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities.

Free to both student-athletes and commercial enterprises, Shocker NIL Exchange provides a customized portal for communicating with student-athletes and fulfilling NIL transactions.

"We are excited to officially launch the Shocker NIL Exchange as a continuation of our commitment in providing the best opportunities for our student-athletes to maximize their NIL," said Wichita State Deputy AD Madison Mason. "This platform will allow Shocker student-athletes the platform to engage directly with businesses and sponsors."

After registering on Shocker NIL Exchange, a business can access a database of Shocker student-athletes, searchable by a variety of criteria, to message a student-athlete directly or request contact information. Influencer and Wichita State will not be involved in any NIL negotiations.

Once an NIL agreement is reached, a customized reporting form compliant with the Kansas law and Wichita State Athletics Name, Image and Likeness guidelines is created and forwarded to Wichita State.

Shocker NIL Exchange also includes a payment processing tool to securely pay student-athletes and create a 1099 form that lives in the student-athletes Influencer app for more efficient tax reporting. The platform will continue to provide education on NIL issues, including financial literacy and brand building, while providing market research and tracking social media growth and engagement.

"We are excited to partner with Wichita State to support the launch of the Shocker NIL Exchange," said Teamworks Influencer General Manager Sean Kelly. "This custom NIL marketplace will provide the platform for Shocker student-athletes to monetize their personal brand and connect them to NIL opportunities."

Influencer works with more than 250 collegiate and professional sports organizations.

Impactful new features like the Influencer Local & Global Exchange, provide local and national companies with the ability to find, communicate, pay, and report NIL transactions with collegiate student-athletes, maximizing their NIL earning potential with streamlined reporting for their institution and their personal tax returns.

      Visit www.inflcr.com for more information.

      Influencer+ Local Exchange
Influencer provides proven technology that offers athletics departments a place to send any business, collective, or individual interested in starting an NIL conversation with student-athletes and allows businesses to access a school-specific directory to filter and contact specific student-athletes by team, sport, and many other options, including automated NIL transaction compliance and tax reporting. For student-athletes, all NIL business conversations can live in their existing Influencer account with automated payments and streamlined reporting for tax purposes.

      About Shocker NIL Exchange
The Shocker NIL Exchange is a student-athlete NIL business registry, custom-designed for businesses, donors, alumni, and any other interested NIL dollars wishing to connect with student-athletes. Registered businesses can search, filter and initiate conversations with your student-athletes to discuss an NIL deal. Once the NIL deal between a registered business and your student-athlete is completed, the business will use the Shocker NIL Exchange to create a transaction that will produce a direct payment to the student-athlete and automate a disclosure to the Influencer Verified Compliance Ledger. The institution does not have to get involved in the deal, and all transactions within the exchange are consolidated into the compliance ledger for the school's review. 1099-K's are also sent to the student-athletes who meet the IRS threshold for third party payment reporting requirements.

      FAQs:
What is Name, Image & Likeness?
As of July 1, 2021, student-athletes competing in NCAA intercollegiate athletics are permitted to receive compensation for the use of their name, image or likeness (NIL) for commercial activities, including endorsements through traditional and social media, appearances, entrepreneurial activities, in-kind deals, autographs and more, in accordance with NCAA guidelines and Wichita State University NIL protocols.

Does the state of Kansas have an NIL Policy?
      NO

Can a University employee or coach help arrange a deal for an athlete?
No. University employees, including coaches and members of the athletics department, CANNOT negotiate deals or contracts. However, they can direct student-athletes to NIL-related opportunities on the Shocker NIL Exchange.

Does the school or Influencer take any revenue from NIL transactions in the Local Exchange?
      No.

Do you have to be an official university licensee to register?
No, but businesses will not be permitted to use university marks without a licensing agreement with Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) or a partnership agreement with Shocker Sports Properties (SSP). For more information about becoming a licensee with Wichita State University, contact Catherine Bitting at catherine.bitting@wichita.edu. For more information about being a partner of Shocker Sports Properties, please contact Mark Rogers at mrogers@goschockers.com

How will I know when I am approved?
You should receive an email verifying your approval. Our goal is to provide final approval or additional correspondence regarding that approval within 48 hours. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Korey Torgerson at ktorgerson@wichita.edu.

When can I start contacting athletes and processing payments?
After being approved by the school, you will be able to contact athletes and process payments.

      • Georgia governor signs order to allow schools to pay players
Georgia's governor signed an order providing legal cover for schools to begin paying athletes directly for NIL while also prohibiting the NCAA from punishing them for doing so.

"Schools in Georgia have legal cover to immediately begin paying their athletes directly, according to an executive order signed by the state's governor Tuesday morning. Gov. Brian Kemp signed an order that prohibits the NCAA or athletic conferences from punishing any university or college in Georgia for "offering compensation, or compensating an intercollegiate student-athlete for the use of such student-athlete's NIL...."

              • Folks who donate to WSU's NIL in the face of essentially zero vision or leadership w/ respect to our future on a national scale... are being generous to put it mildly.

The children, who run things now, are the ones laughing all the way to the bank. They couldn't give two shits about WSU except if the check happens to bounce.

There can't be anybody left still wondering why our country is going straight down the tubes.

                • Matthew Sluka deserts UNLV: Unfulfilled NIL promise drives starting QB of undefeated, CFP-hopeful to quit

It is not the first time a star player has left a college football team over money and in the Wild West era of barely-regulated transfer portal and NIL rules, it won't be the last
                  Dennis Dodd

"...Rob Sine, the CEO of Blueprint Sports, which operates UNLV's collective, told CBS Sports it had not agreed to a $100,000 figure with Sluka.

"We were introduced to the agent less than a month ago for the first time and the agent said he wanted to explore opportunities for his client," Sine said. "We informed that he was not registered with the state or with the school and that he needed to be so the athlete needed to talk to the coaches directly. There was a discussion via email about 3,000 a month of a recurring payment and then the agent said no we're still discussing, we'll let you know how things progress, don't onboard my athlete onto your program yet. And that was it. All of this happens in the span of less than a couple weeks. We never agreed to $100,000, it was never brought to us that was what the number needed to be. I'm learning about a lot of this like you guys are.

"The collective is in great shape and has made every payment that it's needed to make and stood up to every obligation we've been contracted to do," Sine said. "Everything we do is contracted, we don't do anything verbally. We have documentation on every deal we do. There was nothing for this guy. He received $3,000 from us this summer and that was it. We took care of that...."

                    • Settlement designed to pay college athletes gets preliminary approval
A judge granted preliminary approval to the landmark $2.78 billion legal settlement that would transform college sports by allowing schools to pay players.

                      Dan Murphy, ESPN Staff Writer
                      Oct 7, 2024, 03:00 PM ET

"...The NCAA agreed to pay roughly $2.8 billion in damages to former and current college athletes.

The deal also eliminates the restrictions on schools directly paying their players which have long been a cornerstone of the NCAA's amateurism rules. If the settlement is finalized, starting next year schools will be allowed to pay their players up to a certain limit. The cap is expected to start at slightly more than $20 million per school and increase on an annual basis....

Multiple groups told the judge they believed such an allotment would be unfair to women athletes and could be a violation of federal Title IX laws. As part of the settlement, athletes would have to agree to forgo their rights to file Title IX lawsuits about the disbursement of the damages.

Other objectors also raised concerns about a part of the deal that will allow the NCAA to place restrictions on a defined group of third-party boosters and the name, image and likeness deals they can strike with college athletes. The restrictions are designed to stop the current system of NIL-based collectives that use endorsement deals to attract and retain players to a specific team.

Removing collectives would place a more stringent cap on what each team is able to spend to build its roster...."
