Gotta cut them a little slack .. they just discovered basketball exists. Most of them will forget it exists next week as they prepare to watch the football team in the .... *check notes* ... Pop-Tart Bowl ...

    • If Pohto shoots another 3 at any time during a live game, then I will officially begin to question wtf is going on during practice with this staff.

      • Can't believe we couldn't compete with a mediocre K-State team on a neutral floor. That's discouraging. Yah, the refs were hot garbage but our offense continues to lack flow (now from a newly instated "pg"). We are a score first, assist second type team and we just aren't used to that after the last 15 years. It's not as fun to watch and it normally results in absolutely shitty shots that essentially are wasted possessions. Again, what's going on at practice when talking about the offense? Is there any direction given at all? We're now at game 12. It's not just a whim at this point. What we see is apparently is what we're gonna get. I have yet to find any adjustments made with the overall offense from game 1 to now. Discouraging. The defense also lets a lot to be desired. It's soft and it gives up WAY too many open perimeter shots. The rebounding just doesn't seem to be an important element or talking point with this team. Minus maybe 1 or 2 players, they just don't seem to care to go after the basketball. Marshall would be breaking gold glasses and watches with this team and its rebounding effort.

It's frustrating because I kinda think the talent was there to beat K-State. Maybe even somewhat handily. But there's some x's and o's and some effort deficiencies that are keeping us from reaching our maximum ceiling. 8-5 finish to the non-con. Probably about what we all expected going into the year but the way we've gotten there has kinda trended downward.

Do anything but lose by 40 next week on national tv and I guess I'll live with it.

Feels like we’ve plummeted like a rock ever since Pohto started sucking (not saying that as a hater, just looking at the stats). He was so dynamite for the team to get us going. Now I’m not even sure he’s starter material.

I’m guessing that some combination of teams realizing we don’t have a 3 shot, our centers can’t play back to the basket for the most part, and we’re all about penetration makes us easy to scout. It’ll be good to see what magic Cortez and RD3 can bring.

Our mixup of our team is a difficult one. But it does feel like we’ve stopped learning these last few games.

              • K-State starts 2 Jrs, 2 5th years, and a senior. 4 of which are what I would consider top tier transfers. To say they are less talented is crazy to ponder. Beverly, Bell, Ballard, and Rogers have been playing well above where I expected. Thinking we're even close on talent is probably a pretty good indicator that PM is doing his job well with player development.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

                • Are the Shockers an Uber talented team? By no means… somewhat misfit pieces, most players who came from
places where they were not significant pieces. I think they have shown moments and will get better, but the key we ill be when they are complimentary on THIS team, and others coming are the key pieces.

I wouldn't blame it directly on Pohto. Our schedule got harder. It's that simple. We looked good versus the bottom of D1. Then outside of the Richmond game, we've looked like crap vs anyone in the Top 150. We just are not Top 100 type team

Yeah didn’t mean to sound like it’s all on Pohto’s shoulder. We’re just not a good team this year. But I am getting tired of all the mediocrity. Don’t know how many times I’ve heard people comment about how far we’ve fallen.

                        • I had a feeling it wasn’t going to go our way when on the first offensive play of the game, Pohto gets called for a travel.

Got to score on a 3 on 1 fast break. (First half).

Really could have used Colby’s two free throws he missed…bad time for those misses.

I like Cortes’s energy on defense. Think he tried too hard on offense.

Hoping to get a couple wins in our next 5 games.

Need some time to rebuild the chemistry with two new players in the rotation. I think it will come, but will be painful to watch in the meantime.

Nope not at all. This was a winnable game, but this team continues to not do the little things like protect the basketball, rebound and not let your bad shooters continue to take 3pt shots.

                            • I was one of the first to suggest KP as a PF and I now admit I was wrong..........at least at how he is being used in our offense. His size and length are wasted there especially since he isn't shooting that corner three well. If he can't be a threat there teams will just sag to help defend the driving lanes. Time to move him back to high pick and rolls and/or posting up where he helps the team the most. I am in agreement with previous poster that playing the two centers together isn't working. Start KP in the post with QB as back up. Now, that leaves us with a problem at PF. Who wants that position? We really miss Rojas. We have too many guys who stray away from their defensive responsibilities allowing to many bunnies behind them. That has to be cleaned up. In addition, we have stopped going to the boards. DR and Abidde have been disappointing lately and are playing to their weaknesses more than they are their strengths. I see an awful lot of selfish play on this team. Sliding back into the negative assist to turnover territory. Team is not playing well together - more as individuals. Adding RD and BC may be hurting chemistry for now but I expect that will get better. We will get plastered by KU, no doubt. Hopefully, Mills can put this group of misfits together and start conference 2-0 before getting mauled again. There is enough talent on this team to finish in the top five if Mills can get them playing together as a team with better assist/turnover numbers. For me, anything less than a 5th place finish and at least one W at the tournament will be disappointing.
