I believe how it works is not that "protected" seeds are sent to close regional sites (such as WSU to KC), it's that they won't be sent to regional sites where higher seeds are playing close to home (for example, a regional in NY where we may be matched up with Syracuse). "Protected" seeds are protected from being subjected to someone else's de facto home court advantage. If anyone knows better please correct me.

There's also a larger proportion of great players coming from outside the power conferences than in any year that I can remember. Creighton Bluejays forward Doug McDermott, Murray State Racers guard Isaiah Canaan and Wichita State Shockers forwardCarl Hall are among the players who could lead teams to deep runs in the NCAA tournament.

Could this signal more parity(sp?) in College Basketball?

It is always a good year when:
        1. WSU is playing very good.
        2. The Non-BCS schools are making waves in the college basketball scene.
        3. The National Media starts talking about how good players are from the "smaller" schools.

The biggest mover up is Wichita State, which beat Creighton to forge at tie atop the Missouri Valley.

Plus I believe a protected also gets closer to home, right? Or is that for the top 4 seeds?
Top 4 are protected. You're right.

Look at this bracket. Man, I wouldn't want to put in that thing. Belmont would be a tough first round matchup, and then we have Syracuse, Michigan, Gonzaga, VCU, and UCLA. Nope, I don't want that.

I ranted earlier in the year about this, but this just proves that Jerry Palm is a freaking hack. BIG time hack.

With that said, Belmont would be tough, but if we can't beat a Belmont, then maybe we are closer to "mid-major" status than some want to believe.

I'm not saying we couldn't beat them, I'm just saying they probably would be the toughest game we could get as a 4 seed. I'm more worried about the other 5 teams I mentioned.

A 4 seed? Where are you getting this?

Looking further, the hack does give the Valley 3 teams, with Indiana State as an 11 seed, and NOT one of his last 4 out. That's impressive. What's not impressive is his underseeding of us. 6 would have been ok. 5 is where we should be right now.

I'm surprised Palm still has a job after he missed the Northern Illinois BCS Projection (by a TON) and ESPN's guy nailed it. That exposed how outdated his models are in the most painful way possible and he took a big credibility hit.

His opinions are about as valid as Billy Packer and other dinosaurs at this point.

                          I don't want a 5 seed, NO THANKS

Seems like if a non-BCS school gets a 5 seed they get a non-BCS 12 seed. Usually that non-BCS 12 seed is under seeded. How many games in a row had VCU won last year when WSU got them?

Give me a 6 seed and some BCS 11 seed who shouldn't have received an at large in the first place.

Agreed, Ta. The #6 slot is ideal -- a good chance at a dubious power conference at-large to start, and then probably a #3 to get to the second weekend. It can get tougher after that, but you still get three chances for the top seed in your region to get upset before you have to play them if you keep winning yourself.

You guys need to set your sights higher than a 4, 5 or 6 seed.
