'Hawks, Shocks & 'Cats all going Dancing

It's really a simple concept. Win six games in a row, and you take home a National Championship. The brackets for the NCAA Tournament were released today, and the University of Kansas, Kansas State & Wichita State are all going to the Big Dance.
For the third time in the past 6 years, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas State Wildcats will play their opening round games at the same site. Kansas was named a __ seed in the ____ regional, while Kansas State will be a ____ seed in the ____ region. The Jayhawks will take on _______, while the Wildcats face _______.
The Wichita State Shockers earned a ___ seed out of the _____ regional, and will face _____ on ______.
Game times and channels for all of the first weekend games will be released within the next 12-18 hours.
The Jayhawks and Wildcats were also in the same location for the first weekend in 2008 (Omaha) and 2010 (Oklahoma City).

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Don't fall for the ESPN trap that tries to portray that Lunardi is the NCAA selection committee and that what he says, goes.

      • I spent some time last night looking at 19 teams for 10 spots, and ONLY for seeding did I include WSU in the analysis.

Our BPI (yes it's an ESPN thing, but it takes much more into account and is a far better predictor of future success) is higher than ALL of the other teams and 25th overall (Creighton is #12). Our RPI (37) is 4th, and we beat one of the 3 ahead of us. Only 1 team has more wins. Only 1 team has more road wins, and we beat that team. Our non-conference RPI only is behind Minnesota (and ours is #8 overall). Only 2 other teams have a winning record against the top 50, Temple and Virgina. Those same 2 are also the only teams that have better top 100 records. We're 7-3 in our last 10.

Our SOS is 13th so that's bottom half.

If there are any of you out there still concerned about getting in, don't be. We're in, we've always been in, and it's really not that close.

I think we'll be a 10 and NOT in Kansas City. If we would have deserved a 9 or 8, I think they'd match us up against KU in round 3, but with KU being a #1 seed lock I no longer see that possibility. Perhaps in Salt Lake with Duke as a #2 and Gonzaga as a #1. Just perfect for our run to the Final Four.

        • Thanks for the analysis @WuDrWu:. I for one am ready for the show tonight.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

          • Surprised that Lunardi has not updated the brackets since yesterday afternoon. Based on his comments on ESPN yesterday, I expected KU to replace Duke as a #1 seed, and was interested to see if there was any more movement in the lower seeds. I don't worry about not making it, but do worry about moving down into the play-in round a little bit. Based on Greg Shaheen's comments on ESPN it is almost all about resume. RPI is use only for organizing the teams to start the discussions. The resume part bodes well for us in terms of wins against top 50, non-con, etc. But you never know how a committee will put their own spin on it. In any case the field was probably 90-95 picked before yesterday's games. It is all about seeding now..

            • I know the bracket probably won't turn out this way, but the latest version of bracketology has us against UNLV in the 2nd round and then most likely Syracuse in the 3rd if we are fortunate enough to win. Anyone else feel like that is the worst possible matchup the Shocks could get? Playing against the best zone defense in the NCAA. Shocks have struggled all season against the zone.

I always worry about our half court offense against man or zone. Maybe we'll be able to run against OOC competition. Then it won't matter.

                  • I don't need to be reminded I am not the coach BUT if I were and saw zone I would answer by putting Baker at the two guard asap.

                    • I agree, except I would have said 'sub Demetric out and put Baker in as the two guard asap.'

                        El righto!

Thinking bottom half of #10 seeds or top of #11's. Never in doubt of being a #12 play-in to Dayton.

Would much rather the #10 or #11 vs the dreaded #8-9 seed.

Always thought the #11 is better than #9 or 10#, due to playing the #6 1st and then, in theory, the #3.

Being the #8-9 means you get #1 next. Almost the same with #10 where as if you win, you get #2.

In reality, none of it really matters cause you have to play (and beat) all of them if you want to prove you not only belong, but are the real deal.

It's just fun to be able and play the guessing game 2 years in a row instead of already looking to next year.

The 90's seem so long ago, yet it was the longest decade ever for WSU basketball.

                        That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

                        • As many have said, Lunardi is not on the selection committee. However, as many have also mentioned, his updates on Sunday morning tend to be much closer than before.

That said, his update today has us as the 11 in Kansas City playing UCLA. The 3 seed is K-State.

If this happens I will be very excited as everyone should be in the Wichita area who would like the opportunity to see us play in the NCAA tournament in person.

It is so unbelievably tempting to just buy Sprint Center tickets now in anticipation of this happening.
