I have to give props to Commish Aresco.
Aresco couldn't have known that the American would be bringing in a standing Final Four team; the two teams that made the NIT Final; and the CBI Champion; but man he hit the scratch off on Expansion BIG.
I'm actually looking forward to the AAC season next year more than any before. AAC basketball is in good hands, with a lot of good, new, locations, and some solid buzz.
Coach Mills is going to have his work cut out for him. Penny just landed two of the best transfers at Memphis - to go with a ranked recruiting class at Memphis. SMU just landed a 4 star guy from Georgetown. FAU is bringing back all of their guys and should be ranked going into next year.
The AAC tournament in Fort Worth should see greater increases in attendance now that the location hasn't moved and there are more teams within a short days trip.
Well done Commish Aresco. Go Shox!!!

10 years but I'm sure there are outs. But you also have to realize that FAU has never been much at all in basketball and their facilities were **** before he got there. They're still not good, but they've made improvements. He's also going to be in demand and I'm sure this extension has a nice payout if/when someone pulls him away. He's good friends with the AD and I'm sure he wants to make sure he's put in a good position as well.
FAU may be favored to win the AAC next year. They should be no worse than 2nd. UNT and Charlotte have both lost a few players, but I'd think UNT should still be in the upper half. I don't know about Charlotte. Rice has a good recruiting class coming in and UAB should also be a top half of the conference team. We won't talk about UTSA. We've known from the beginning that they would need some time in basketball and were added because of football, where they've been in and around the top 25 for a few years now. I'd bet their football program gets even better moving to the AAC and basketball will come along eventually.
It will be interesting to see what final rosters look like in a month or so.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

"If May takes another job before Feb. 29, 2024 he will owe the university $1.5 million. That number decreases to $1 million, $750,000 and $500,000 over the next three years."
If he leaves after next season, they only get 1 mil. I haven't seen the buyout for if they end up needing to fire him but if its remaining contract, they could owe him 9-10 million even after 3-4 years if this one good season ends up being a fluke.
I understand May had all the negotiating power here, but 10 years just seems irresponsible for someone that doesn't have a long track record of winning and winning big.

10 years is what it took to keep him obviously. It also assured FAU’s chance to stay relevant in the short term with the team more likely to remain intact. What was the length of Marshall’s contract after the Final Four run?
May has made the university more money and notoriety and future exposure/publicity than what his new contract is worth. They’re not just throwing money away like this university has done.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

This conference has (or will have as of July 1st) a lot of schools with crazy potential but not a lot of historical success. It will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next decade or so."It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM

UCF passed them up for football, but even though both UCF and USF have lot of students/money, they both have done very little or nothing with their basketball programs. Honestly, none of the Florida schools, including UF and FSU have become the basketball power, you'd think.
Poor leadership? Lack of vision/purpose/mission? Weak athletic director? All the above? Whatever it is, the fact USF isn't challenging every year in basketball and football is a huge disappointment. In my opinion, you can add Temple to the list of schools that is an underachieving disappointment."It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM
