I have a feeling that the financial part has been analyzed and they know what kind of contract they can offer at this point. But I doubt that even ADKS knows what will happen untill he can negotiate with candidates, and that probably won't be until after the NCAA tournament.

Only if we're hiring a Final Four coach or one of his assistants.

I'll pose a subpart to the question.

How many people who want Isaac Brown gone would still want him gone if Mark Turgeon was guaranteed to be the new coach?

Another way of asking the same question is whether those who have stopped going to home games would start going if Turgeon was the guy on the sideline.

I may be in the minority, but Turgeon would not get me back inside The Chuck.

Would up my SASO at least 1 level and probably get 2 more season tickets than I used to have.

The landscape is so much different from even five years ago. I think regular sellouts are a thing of the past. Just too much competition for your entertainment time and dollar. Getting 8k on average butts in seats for lower profile games may be the high water mark. Not like the old days when it was “Matlock” or Shocks tonight?

Wichita loves a winner though. Turgeon or any coach starts winning home games at a .700 clip and the 8k will be there regularly with sellouts for the big names like…UTSA?

I should add that I am not saying anything either way on Turgeon. I liked him when he was HC at WSU, and logically he's almost assuredly a better coach now. And there are plenty of examples out there of coaches who flamed out at a P5 team who then did much better in a conference outside the big 5.

On the other hand, it is also reasonable to think that the perception is that Turgeon may be the guy we think we can "get" right now. If Isaac Brown stayed one more year and the buyouts were lower on his contract, maybe that would open up the prospective field to someone who may put more butts in seats immediately.

It's also a question regarding how peoples' priorities and standards have changed over the last 15 years. Turgeon was a guy who, by the time he left, had Koch arena selling out regularly. There's no reason to think he can't have WSU being at least as good as it was when he was last here, so if he doesn't put butts in seats, is it the fans' standards that have changed, or are they just happy watching the games from home and spending their dollars elsewhere?

As am I. That said I really have no idea what if any big donor commitments the ADKS may have in hand that don't show up on the books.

That is mostly speculation. There is simply know way of knowing that for sure. Although I trust ADKS will be much better than FADDB in making hiring decisions, but again the proof will be in the pudding.

There's the teeny-tiny issue of Mark's youngest being a junior in high school this year. If this was a year from now, I would guaran-damn-tee that Mark would want to come here. I just wonder if it would work in this hiring cycle. Maybe he would do it, but maybe he wouldn't. I know that his son still being in high school is a factor.

I agree with all this. I think attendance numbers are still down across the nation after covid. I think a decent correlation can be drawn to movie ticket sales, which still have not recovered to anywhere near pre-covid levels.

This could be a good start; I believe this is going to be a real 'life-changing/life-saving' movie...

More than that, I think it's home streaming. Which also correlates to how easy it is to watch a shocker game at home if you've got ESPN+ (which I think most people with a Disney+ subscription have).
