I might just really want Brown gone, but imo I’m going to be deeply disappointed with Saal if he doesn’t get this done. There’s been lots of reasons commented that shed a different kind of light on this fire being worth it, including butt in seats, donor withdrawal, Brown getting hired elsewhere, not to mention the consequences of waiting another year.

also - Saal promised us early, repeatedly, that mediocrity is not going to be tolerated. That we’re going to be a winning team. He sold me on that, so now it’s time for him to deliver. ****ing fire brown and bring a winning coach that doesn’t have to play in to the ****ing AAC tournament.

And to those saying Brown had gotten better recently. Yes, you’re right, I agree. BUT his much improved team still failed to defeat a mediocre Tulane, let alone compete with Houston, Memphis, etc.

So I’m just going to say it again.

    Fire ****ing Brown
I've been one of the staunchest IB critics but the short timelines and expectations for ADKS are a bit unfair. He just hasn't been here long enough to expect everything to be lined up from a financial standpoint. Now a year from now when we're having the same IB discussion, then absolutely every fan knows what ADKS needs to do. IB is not the guy, we're merely biding time at this point. But I don't think the funds are in the coffers to make a move at this time. I don't expect ADKS to do anything other than offer a PC-laden statement of support. He's on the clock over the next year to have everything in place to make a move and knock it out of the park exactly a year from now.

These types of posts tell me some on here will crucify ADKS for not pulling the trigger right now. That's not fair and shortsighted.

UTSA retained their coach after a horrible season but the AD released a statement that basically said "this season's results are not acceptable, the program must improve or the coach will be fired next year". Obviously the AD didn't say the coach would be fired but it was strongly implied.

I hope ADKS doesn't beat around the bush and lets everyone know that the standard is still the damn standard.

I think that’s something I could swallow. But I don’t want to hear some crap about how he’s great and looking forward to another season. Nobody’s looking forward to next year.

Completely fair (your comment is). It’s not been long. BUT my expectations were set up by Saal blatantly talking about actions having consequences after some of these bad losses. The message was put out there earlier in the season for IB to hear. While things have improved, it’s not enough. So it’s probably also fair to be upset if Saal doesn’t deliver on his promise that there would be consequences.

I will admit however that im probably a bit pressed about all this. Living in the UK and not caring one bit about cricket or “football”, this is really my only tie to back home and it pisses me off to see us in this state. Especially more so when I know how much wealth is in our alumni and fans, and I hear that money is the concern.

              • I was born in the 40's and can remember the day I got a raise to $1.50 per hour. When I hear that someone is making several million a year I ask myself if they are worth it and what are they doing to keep it. IMO I don't believe IB is worth it. Is he a decent coach, sure. Better than some but not as good as many others. I have been a Shocker fan for over 50 years and will continue to be a fan but it hurts so bad to see how far we have fallen. Hurts almost as bad as when we got rid of football because we were losing so much money. Hopefully that never happens again.

There is no denying this team improved over the last month plus.
The effort and focus was there, as well as figuring out the right mix of players and rotations.
It was definitely a case of learning as they went along - which goes for the coaching too.

Very obvious that IB and staff improved as the season progressed. I think IBHC was starting to figure it out, which is good for him, not so much for the state of the program.
As mentioned previously, WSU is a destination, not a training program. Thats essentially what the season was about - IB learning how to adjust, coach and develop a team approach.
Is that what WSU has become?
Is that what the true supporters of the program accept?
                  I don't think so.
SE Missouri State or Furman is a training program. Not here.

After 12 straight years of of bites at the NCAA pie including a Final 4 party, WSU blue bloods expect to be in it every year and not just an every 5 years or so cameo appearance.
With a nice guy like IB at the wheel and using it as a 'learning on the job' experience, every 5 years or so getting an invitation to the Dance will be the norm, not the exception.

ADKS hopefully had made in-roads with the money dudes in town. He has certainly been out meeting them and hopefully he shook those hands just right.
If so and has their support, the time to make the change is sooner than later.
Apathy is a death wish for any program and if some think it was bad this year, just wait until next if nothing is done.

                  That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Here to eat some crow and say glad I was wrong. I shouldn't second guess the financial support of this program.

                    • This city has deeper pockets than you can imagine.

This isn't just some bible belt backwater like people outside (and even inside) the area would like to believe.

                        • Still amazed someone found it worth their bother to toss several million out they will never see again towards a sport that is so f’d up by double standards and corruption, but maybe we truly have become privately owned.

Seems like a good idea for a poll now!

I’ve been buying season tickets for decades and would be buying them next year with or without a new coach. However I will be amazed if more season tickets are sold next year unless there are significant changes to ticket prices. As my buddy told me the other day Shocker bball / SASO contributions are his number 2 recurring monthly expense after property taxes. Costs for everyday fans matter!

I would be shocked if those prices don't go up. Definitely don't think they will go down.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
