They’re pissy that because of the new premium seats the cheer squad and dance team are stuck into the student section and not on the floor.

Those seats looked totally filled to me, at big money prices. I’d like to sit there for a game if I can swing it. The basketball game is the product. Sorry if the dancers feel disrespected, but they have their own competitions etc. I care about the basketball game.

Well I guess they should just remove the spirit squad from the games all together then. Who needs them right?

And they only have 1 competition honestly.

I say we worry about filling all the other seats first.

I don't mean to **** on them with what I said - but I think the people interested in those seats are the ones who will be instrumental in turning the program around and have supported it financially. If appeasing them comes with this negative then so be it. Obviously the real big bucks sit at the media table, but some potential big bucks can get in the door in these seats. And nobody who wants to fill the rest of the arena is considering the luxury seats - or they're already going & looking for a treat.

            • I don't think you could pay me to sit there. I want to actually be able to see the game. Sitting on the floor on the baseline doesn't give one the best option at that, but if people want to spend extra to see less of the game, that's their call. I've had floor seats once at a WSU game and they were free through a friend who got them from someone he knew. I'd never pay for them.

I will miss the eye candy that you can usually find amongst the dance team during dead balls and timeouts and such. But if it works out for WSU financially I can't fault them.

Though I do feel bad for the girls who do these things to be a part of the game and atmosphere and that's been taken away a bit.

I agree with you on the floor seats and the first few rows of the seats in the 3 middle sections in on either side of the court that go down to the floor. Not good site lines at all. To me the prime seats the first 10 rows from the vomitory levels on down. Their is a reason private boxes and luxury suites aren't on the floor level (i.e. Intrust Bank). It's possible these folks paying premium prices for these floor seat will come to the same conclusion and this will be short lived.

I would be surprised that just because the cheer and dance squads are not on the floor that they won't be on the floor during timeouts and such. Hopefully, they will be situated where they have quick ingress and egress to the floor from where they will be sitting.

I'm not sure where they're putting the spirit squad, but I saw reference to the student section. There's really not a good, quick way to the floor from there as there's no access point unless you go to the first section behind the away bench or across from that. That's a lot of going up and around. It may work for the under 4's where the breaks are longer and they would have more time to make the journey up and around to get back to the floor.

                  • Sat on the floor for years before the remodeling. Great seats and unique perspectives that just can't be matched anywhere else, BUT you have to appreciate what you're getting, and I know not everyone sees things the same.

This decision seems to be at odds with the "for the student athletes" mantra though. I'm sure it's difficult, but it seems to me like both could be accommodated.

Sitting on the front row of any floor seat with no one in front of you might be okay, although not my preference. Otherwise, I can get a better feel for the flow of the game with a broader perspective. Keep in mind in my prime was 5-8 at most. Nowadays, maybe 5-7 as my joints and vertebrae compress. But it's all personal preference. For one of the AfterShocks' games we sat in the 2nd row right on the SW corner of the arena. Those were a lot of fun, but those seats are also elevated and don't go to the floor.

I agree that they should be able to accommodate and address the needs of the cheer and dance squads and would anticipate they will at least make an attempt to do that. I guess we will find out soon enough.

                      • I've officiated enough games to know there's a reason an official is only supposed to call a relatively small portion of the court. As a fan, I like to be able to see all of the movement and take in a lot of off ball work. A one off here and there does allow you to get a different understanding of the speed and physicality in front of you, but I don't need that personally.

I'd also say there is probably a bit more of a difference between sitting at/near half court on the floor and sitting on the ends.

They are in the first two rows of the student section on the bench side of the goal. Also, there is now an opening in the railing with steps down for quick access to the floor.

From my perspective, it is a nothing burger.
I sit on the opposite end a few rows above the floor scoreboard and the squad was on the floor just below me . I do miss the the obvious, including gymnastics being right at my feet but other than the occasional flips on made free throws and shaking of the pom poms on a play or three, not a lot of value added to the premium floor space.

I wonder what it would be like to sit on the floor and get so into the game that you have a near-altercation with a ref. Hmmmm. Not sure why I thought of such a hypothetical situation.
