What's his plan to practice free throws? Don't want them slacking off on them.....

      Lol
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

      • Idk what kind of season were going to have, but the coaches shows sure are a lot better.

        • Interesting comment - Our lineup was on the plus side in the scrimmage against Iowa in the 10 minutes KP and QB played together.

          • Night and day difference, thus far, imo.

However, no questions, discussions on the PG position. Lots of comments on Ballard, Pohto.

Still a much better show overall. (Really wouldn’t take much tho).

                • But how did it compare to a Bob Richey interview? That seems to be an important standard for judging coaches.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

unbelievable. Almost seems like the media is getting coached and that's not a good thing.

Come on. There’s been like 2 or 3 anecdotes and stories written about this already. I don’t know how much more there is to say about it.

His plan may or may not work (I’m pretty skeptical myself as well), but there isn’t a ton else to say until there’s more data and games to look at.

Seriously. The conspiracy theorists crack me up man. They are conspiring to not tell us about the PG situation!! Lol!

Bottom line is they thought they had the PG situation cleared up in recruiting. Things happen, as they always do, and now we find ourselves where we are now. It's not like HCPM said, "you know what, I don't need a PG. I think I just won't recruit one." Have faith in this staff. I know we are predisposed to think the world is falling because the previous coach was inept, but that is not the case now.

                        • I don't believe for one minute that not having a true PG was EVER Mills' _intention_. Saying he didn't WANT a top notch true PG is silly. I just don't think he was able to find and recruit another one in addition to Cortes, that would have been available immediately, was proven, and not already being poached by a P5 school before even hitting the portal.

I think you can put about 90% of the head coaches in college basketball in that category. Those types of players aren't exactly coming out of the woodwork. It they do they are going to the blue bloods. I think HCPM style of play lends itself to playing different guys at the PG position. Would I love to have a true PG or two on the roster and available? Sure, but that doesn't appear to be able to happen. Like someone above said, what more could be said at this point from the staff?

It may not be intentional or all his fault .. but he's paid handsomely to fill out the team with the correct components. He's not just paid to coach whoever shows up .. he's paid to get the right players to want to come here .. that's part of his job. Having only one PG on the roster who wasn't 100% eligible is on him.

He gets some slack since he started mid recruiting season and he's done pretty good for 2024 class, but he doesn't get to wash the blame for the way this roster is constructed. Its all part of why he's getting paid millions. If year 2 ends up the same way, we will have REAL concern. Right now its just a yellow flag as something to watch for. He will have to earn his paycheck on the coaching side this year to make up for the lack of success on the recruiting side.

I also don't think it's a bad thing he's not harping on it in conversations. He's trying to make the best of it with what he has. Talking about not having a PG over and over is just trying to deflect blame. So I do like the way hes talking (or not) about it.

Has he tried to shift blame to someone else? I can't recall seeing that. He recruited just fine. Things happen and it appears that Cortes didn't complete the work necessary to be eligible.
