They have to complete their business and let you go or risk facing a lawsuit that the civilian will almost always win, and will most likely get settled out of court as case law on such issues is pretty well established at this point.
Interesting, I'll google that when I take a break.

Along those lines, I've always felt that guilty people need good lawyers, and innocent people REALLY need good lawyers.

Because he has rights and doesn't have to. I have nothing to hide in my vehicle but I'm never giving permission to police to search it. Borrowing a vehicle? Even more reason to not let them search it.

I know, most go through life with the thought process if you have nothing to hide, let the cops do whatever they want. I go through life knowing that we all have rights and the cops aren't entitled to search anything without probable cause or a warrant. And the odds may be slim, but we've seen cops plant drugs and such just in order to make an arrest. So I'm not going to take the chance that one of those types are involved.

Warrant for arrest issued in case of YMCA basketball game assault
Warrant for arrest issued in case of YMCA basketball game assault - LimaOhio.com
    By Jessica Orozco
    September 19, 2022

"LIMA (OHIO) — Quintez Burns, charged with felonious assault for an altercation that took place during a basketball game at the Lima YMCA earlier this year that left one man seriously injured, failed to appear at his jury trial Monday morning. According to court documents, Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Terri Kohlrieser put out a bench warrant for Burns’ arrest. Burns, 28, was indicted in connection with a fight at the YMCA that resulted in “serious physical harm to Preston Patrick,” according to the indictment. Burns previously failed to show up for a court appearance on May 5, for which a bench warrant was issued. He was later allowed out on bond."

I want to know why he allowed them to search the car. A simple traffic stop like that isn't reason enough for them to just go in without permission.

It all depends on Michigan law I would suspect. I honestly don't know the laws in other states. That's why I don't take a gun with me. It wouldn't matter in Kansas, unless you are a felon.

    Sep 16, 2022

"Ameer Sutton-Best, 31, tried to have a friend pay off the victim's family, according to prosecutors.

A basketball coach at a Chester County youth center raped a 13-year-old girl, prosecutors said Friday. Ameer Sutton-Best, 31, also solicited sex acts from two other underage girls, sending them explicit text messages and pornography, according to the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest. The friend offered to pay the victim’s family in exchange for not reporting the rape to law enforcement, according to prosecutors...."
