Toure was a 4 year starter, a leader, and versatile player who was key in the re-build of the program. For me, I think his number of steals, 2nd behind Perez all-time, is a bigger deal than his assists. His per game average for steals would probably keep him near the top. However, while a great assist man, those assists per game pale to many others. I don't believe he would even be in the top 10 (not that #11 or 12 is anything to sneeze at). It still bothers me that the official scorer added an assist after Toure's last game to give him the record over Armstrong. Toure had about 3.1 career assists per game, Warren's was 5.5 per game. Just no comparison. Even Stallworth, who is known for his scoring, averaged almost 5 assists per game for his career.

      • I figured the assist comparisons would come up as soon as I submitted the post. I should have inserted a drumroll.

        • I can't believe that it took till the end of July to start the annual debate on how good/bad Toure, Rags, and Stutz were while in Shocker uniform. What's great is that Early, VanVleet, and Baker will all be remembered as great by all.

We will all remeber those guys as part of the team that got us our first championship and/or a number 5 seed. We'll never forget that!

He was also really good at 'the failed clock play'...pretty much the opposite of FVV. Mekel had the nba body and the diva attitude, whereas FVV has the height disadvantage but the flawless everything else imaginable.

Mekel would hog the ball, run around and then miss the shot or rack up an out of control turnover when it was time for a clock play. FVV executes it, scores with 1 second on the shot clock and breaks the will of the opponent.

Yeah, yeah... Could have used just one more of those against Kentucky but oh well.

              • There is no question at this point in FVV's career compared to Gal's last year with us, that he is the much more complete point guard,

While at the same time, you need to seriously compare the significant talent that FVV played with last year to that which backed up Gal, especially after Matt got hurt.

                • Gary Parrish puts FVV on his Preseason First Team All American List.

Also gives a hat tip to Ron Baker as someone he could have just as easily included.

I think one (FVV and Baker) will be 1st team and the other 2nd team.

                        • Take a look at the other four schools that placed a player on the list:

                          Duke
                          UNC
                          Arizona
                          Louisville

                          Good stuff!
