Great academics, tiny student body, almost zero local fan interest. On the plus side, it’s located in a great part of town and could become a fun place to go to see games.

And they have the most resources to do it. They have to prove it, but they have committed to raising their basketball profile and are investing millions into doing so. Time will tell but I'm trying to be optimistic about them until proven otherwise. Maybe they'll be more motivated to compete with Tulsa and Tulane now that they're together.

      • Rice has been aggressively expanding its enrollment (up 80% over the past two decades). https://www.forbes.com/sites/michael...h=3c34be86b6a7

As part of being accepted into the AAC, the school committed to improving its athletics program--which appears consistent with overall university goals so I'm not assuming they were just blowing smoke. And they have more cash than God with which to do it. If that's the weakest athletic program in the conference, and it arguably is, I'd put their potential up against any MVC school every day and twice on Sunday.

I slept on a school in a similar situation. They proved up to the task. I’m going to error on the side of caution and say rice can get it done.

If you're referring to Loyola, I did the same. Loyola pretty much grabbed the torch from us as the best MBB program in the MVC, and they did it within just a handful of years of joining that conference. Now they're going to the A10. They sure gave me a mouthful of crow to chew on.

I'm not saying Rice, UTSA, UAB and FIU are going to replace what we're losing in the three traitors leaving. But anyone calling the post-alignment AAC subpar to the MVC is pretty tone deaf considering what's currently going on with the schools in both conferences.

And most of the incoming schools have upside that most of the MVC schools simply don't. North Texas and UAB are already in pretty good shape, though I know UNT had to replace their HC that moved onto SMU. (I think that's correct).

              • The AAC seems to be in a significantly better position related to NIL than the MVC.

Loyola hit a home run, or as close to as you can in the MVC.

                    Grant McCasland stayed with UNT

If you have been following closely this week, UNT men's head basketball coach Grant McCasland has been rumored all over the place following his third successful season in Denton.

It would be nice to only be paying $830k for an experienced HC

Sounds good, I’ll make sure I get my application in before the deadline. I’ll crowdsource the decisions from ShockerNet. What could go wrong?
