Fire Boatright Billboard Discussion

Looking at the weather, we may have to wait and see if I detour home. Not sure if I want to navigate more traffic and some of those streets if I don't have to should the rain come. So pics from me might be delayed as my drive home is generally jumping on 235 and taking it around to 254 and avoiding going "into" city areas. Latest thunderstorm predictions that I've seen have things picking up after four and being strongest around five. If that's the case, I'm just focusing on driving home safely.

Was hoping someone that worked near the two billboards might have been able to snap a lunchtime pic or something for us. I've also been checking Twitter sporadically in hopes that maybe someone might post something but haven't seen anything yet.

I'll try depending on the weather. Don't really want to drive where I don't normally go in post work traffic and heavyish rain if I don't have to. Surely someone on here naturally drives by or near at least one of the locations.

I've made sure to share your tweet with the billboard. Really curious what kind of buzz it will generate and how active the site may be. Do we have anything in the blog section yet? I know there were some good first hand accounts previously about interactions or why other are withholding funds or not renewing tickets. They'd be great additions to be added if people are willing.

Fessing up

Very disappointed but not surprised to share this news.

Wichita State Univ has reached out to Lamar and threatened legal action over the billboards. Mr Boatright is "very upset". I have been informed we will need to change the design to something that doesn't "attack" Boatright to keep the ads running. Not sure where to go from here.

I've been a Shocker fan all my life. Most of my athletic wear has a Shocker logo on it somewhere. I've been proud of it when the hoops program was in the dump and when they were on top of the world. I have never felt this much apathy towards the university as a whole. We pay Boatright's salary as donors and taxpayers. We are the ones who support the program. But when we call coming wanting to draw attention to making a change after our voices fell on deaf ears, this is how they respond. Not a dialogue, not even a direct statement or email to us personally, but straight to legal threats. Never heard of that even with other schools "fire (person)" billboards.

Can they just say “Fire Boatright” without the “legacy of failure” part?

That wouldn’t be calling him out on anything; just an opinion.

How about this photo in black and white in the back ground and in yellow text it says something like:

Just a couple ideas.



Sid note: How do politicians get away with saying whatever they want in attack ads, if this is considered an “attack”?
