But going much beyond that, I doubt it.
At one time the "U" had a "Shocker Wheels" club and I believe our high-level coaches received the use of a 'new' or slightly 'used' vehicle during their tenure. Gotta think the area dealers could locate a few salvage vehicles (clunkers) for key players... make sure they have some bling. There was a story floating around several years ago about FHCGM ordering a brand 'new' black Benz; unfortunately, it arrived in a different color. FHCGM was a perfectionist... and that's all I have to say about that.

That is a totally different argument. Dumbass.
Currently we have a once in a generation softball player. Might be the most marketable female athlete in WSU history. Have any businesses inked her to a visible advertising deal? Any car wash coupons or local bank ads? If not then why not?

She has had multiple deals with HomeGrown for both commercials and for displaying her art in their restaurants. Her social media is littered with "sponsored" posts from lots of businesses (not all local)

Hey now I stand corrected as I've been out of town for years now. Sounds like small potatoes but it is something. Wonder what the size of these deals are?

I knew a lot of ladies (of ALL ages) who I know went crazy over Ron Baker, and there is no doubt in my mind that they would have double dipped at COK without even knowing they were being influenced. If you did that too, I'd be a little worried. I have a couple of other Tex Mex places I prefer, but the Chipotle Burritos at COK are still top notch. LOL

NIL deal is not the same thing as an actual ROI.

That has nothing to do with the quoted response to BostonWu. He didn't realize that she's been doing well for herself with NIL deals and has many more than he knew about.

I'm assuming Thrive believes they're getting a good enough ROI considering it's been multiple, ongoing deals. Others obviously feel it's worth it as well as she does have a number of posts promoting different products/businesses. Is she making millions? No. But I'm sure she's made a nice chunk of change and the businesses seem to be happy to keep using her.

NIL isn't about making millions. Those athletes are very few.

The point was that our most marketable athlete, which someone questioned doing much for NIL, is actually doing very well for herself and has multiple local to national deals in her name. So there is a market. There is value. And it's not restricted to basketball. They are generally the more public and recognizable athletes (If they stick around) but there is plenty of value to be had outside of that. And the best Shocker athlete on the best Shocker program is doing well for herself.

Never said it was. Like most Marketing deals (even non NIL) the ROI is rarely cut and dry.

Let me reframe the issue. And I've stated before I'm really not interested in anything outside mbb. Currently we are not major players in the NIL market. Whatever Syd or anyone else is currently making and the size of these deals is insignificant. The scale of these deals will not move the needle in mbb. That's all I'm concerned about, having enough NIL funds to fuel top 40-50 mbb program where we're not getting lapped by the likes of Memphis, kstate and creighton for high level recruits. The proof is in the pudding, those programs are recruiting at a higher level no doubt fueled by NIL. You can talk up Syd or whatever current athlete we have and how they're doing just fine but from an institution-level NIL perspective we're not competing with any serious mbb programs.

Do I think area businesses would like to endorse WSU athletes with major deals? Absolutely, I think they're salivating for the next Ron, Fred, Cle, Cotton to arrive. All those guys would have most likely garned 6 plus figure deals. The money is out there for the right faces but currently there's no one marketable enough to throw decent money at that would put WSU on another level.

                    • Correct, Spangles could host an autograph signing session and I doubt more than 30 people would show up. These kids all want handouts, they don’t want to earn anything and the majority of them have done nothing on the court to have any “fame” whatsoever. It’s all a big delusional mess. Freshman Fred would not have gotten much money, but Sophomore Fred would have raked in the dough, same with Ron.

Ron's Pantene NIL deal would have been record breaking

Which ends up with the vast majority of athletes, who feel worthy, entering the transfer portal.
