I have seen them both play and he is more like Reggie Chamberlain, but more athletic and complete. Clevin was on a unreal loaded team that sent seven players to some big time programs. There is/was nothing wrong with Reggie-he turned out to be a solid D-1 player. If that is what our walk-ons are turning into, I will take it seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

Bottom line: He will contribute somehow, someway in his career here.

From what I saw Mitchell was effective at getting to the basket at Hutch, which explains his high FG%. He wasn't that great of a 3-pt shooter. I'd say he is the anti-Clevin, which is why I compared him to Karon Bradley.

Karon's not a bad comparison, although he was big time explosive off his feet. Not sure Joe Mitch is quite that powerful, but a lot of the same intangibles.

I count 16 players. Which 3 don't get scholarships?

Vautravers and Mitchell are walk-ons (with Mitchell probably being the most highly-credentialed walk-on in recent WSU history). There's reason to believe that Armstead may not be on one of the 13 regular basketball scholarships anticipated for next year, and trop can probably provide more details than I can recall about that.

I'm not sure what to think about Mitchell. We've got Armstead and VanVleet as true PGs and Ron Baker as a true SG. Williams and Cotton are VERY good combo guards that Mitchell will have to beat out. I see a lot of three guard line-ups next year due to the rediculous depth.

3 guards only when Early isn't playing. Or Green/Hawkins. I really don't know if we'll see a lot of what would be considered 3 guards when we have those types of SFs potentially available. And if Wessel develops....

I’ve never seen Joe play, however I know a couple of die-hard Hutch Juco season ticket holders that were both very high on Joe. They said he was a quality guard and were ‘shocked’ that he was going to be a walk-on at WSU. They were also high on Daris Johnson Odom when he was at HCC. As was mentioned previously, he did sign with “Sweet Sixteen Ohio U” and that should tell us something. Who knows, we could be looking at one of the top walk-ons in the country?

I emailed a friend in Hutchinson that is close to the HCC basketball program and asked him to provide his unbiased opinion on Joe Mitchell. The gentleman played high level D-1 basketball many moons ago and I’ve always respected his eye for talent. The gentleman follows WSU, however he doesn’t follow recruiting. Obviously he doesn’t realize the potential depth we’ll have at the guard position next year. Take this FWIW:

“In my opinion.....Mitchell is the real deal. He was a team player, but when Hutch would be in a jam (behind 7 pts with 3 min. to go); he could take over the game. He could take the ball right to the rim.....and put up shots not unlike Tyshon Taylor at KU. He could get a shot up and in.....among the big trees. I think he can help anyone.....and it would surprise me......if he is not starting next year for the Shocks. It may be near the end of the season, but I think he will eventually become a starter.”

If he's capable of putting Armstead or FVV or Cotton or DWill or Baker on the bench, great.

He'll make everyone better in practice is all I'm counting on.

I see a lot of depth on next year's team. We are a little thin at center, but moving Hall there gives us depth. We have several guys that can play PF. If Early, Hawkins, and Green can guard the three we have a ton of depth there as well. My question is whether or not they can guard that position and I won't have an answer until after the season starts.

even tho hes a little shorter, I think Halls nature position is Center, especially in the valley

Gotta love the fact that Armstead is here to help issue's at the point and maybe even the 2. I'm as stoked about FVV as anyone, I just like having Armstead here to provide some background and leadership....especially on the Defensive end. Led Oregon in steals, not sure how he plays offensively though but ill take a player that can shut down defensively anyday. Anyone know what Early with play? Does he play the 3 or will Marshall use him as a 4?

Early says he'll play the 3. He should play the 3. He's been said to be a potential NBA 2. He's capable of playing the 4, but we'll be better off if he doesn't have to play there much if at all.

I continually ask this and no one has yet provided a reasonable response. Who will play the PF? White and Hawkins? Perhaps. Hall and White? That leaves the center to thin. I think Early will play the SF and PF for the reason listed above.
