What type of guard is Mitchell...what style does he most remind one of?

I have never seen him play, but have heard he is tough (and obviously skilled to be 3rd team Juco AA). This team needs tough.

This isn't tht hard. He's a combo guard.

To answer the question, here is the plan.

          1. Play a little softer schedule because wins matter more than losses for post season purposes.
          2. Spread game minutes around to provide as much experience as possible to young players, prior to conference play.
          3. Assume that the Shockers will have to win the Valley post season tournament in order to qualify for the Big Dance.

How is that for a plan?

Some of those guys just don't pan out as well as you have to consider why they were JUCO to begin with.

We've seen JUCO AA guys fail miserably. I haven't seen a lot of Joe. But what I have seen I haven't been impressed with. Especially to see the court over the likes of Armstead, Williams, Baker, FVV and Cotton. You can only play so many guards.

I compare him to Reggie Chamberlain, but a little more athletic.

Not going to hurt you when he plays, but not a go to guy on this team.

I’ve never seen Joe play, however I know a couple of die-hard Hutch Juco season ticket holders that were both very high on Joe. They said he was a quality guard and were ‘shocked’ that he was going to be a walk-on at WSU. They were also high on Daris Johnson Odom when he was at HCC. As was mentioned previously, he did sign with “Sweet Sixteen Ohio U” and that should tell us something. Who knows, we could be looking at one of the top walk-ons in the country?

Yea, Clevin Hannah, Joe Ragland, Ben Smith and Carl Hall have not panned our well at all...just sayin!

All due respect, Sub, but you say this every time Mitchell's name is mentioned. Have you seen him play anywhere besides Shocker Madness since his high school days?

I watched a few games of him at HCC and while he's not fantastic at any one skill, he is servicable and has some intangibles. If you look at some of his old box scores you'll see that he could practically carry a team on his shoulders. A pretty good comparison from recent Shocker past would be Karon Bradley.

While the depth at guard may limit him to spot minutes next season (like Cotton say for much of this year), I have no doubt he could play a significant supporting role the following year.

I see him playing less than Cotton did this year if at all. I haven't seen him play much, I'll give you that. Even as a SR, I see him behind FVV, Cotton and Baker for sure. If we land Wiggins, he won't play much then either. People continue to throw his name out like he'll be a big contributor. I just don't see it.

According to GoShockers.com (https://admin.xosn.com/fls/7500/stat...DB_OEM_ID=7500) we are bringing back 24.5 pts. per game. Even if Marshall comes back next year is a rebuilding year while young guys gain experience.

I would be in the "I don't know what to expect" category. Joe could start for all I know. I do know that 3G never fails to mention that he will be eligible next season. He also transfered from a team (Ohio) that is in the S16. It's very hard to evaluate talent based on hype or in this case the lack of. From my view, he looked just as good as Armstead sitting on the end of the bench.

Case in point: I didn't think Cotton would see the court this year.

From the recruiting thread on him.

So ... yeah ... heard this on KGSO this afternoon. Freakin' sweet to add JucoRecruiting's No. 28 player and No. 5 SG at the last minute. Joe was an NJCAA HM All-American last year and led HCCC with 18.2 ppg, 1.5 steals per game, and 4.1 assists per game. He also managed -- on a team with Robert Goff and William Nelson in the post -- to grab 5.4 boards per game despite being 6-1.

He shot 52 percent from the floor, 30 percent from three, and 78 percent from the line.

So I guess the real question is was he more like Clevin and Joe or more like Reggie Chamberlain in juco... Numbers look pretty good to me....
