That is the corporate model in America these days. Everyone can be replaced by someone younger, with less qualifications, for less money.

    • With Garrett Bayliff in charge of strength and conditioning for the baseball team, and I suspect many of the bball players have their own strength and conditioning coaches, is it possible that KR's services were greatly reduced, or not needed as much. That might have led to a discussion of a reduced salary. Couple that with a stealth raise for boatwrong, and you might have a good time to resign.

PS. I know there are more athletes on campus than baseball and bball, but they don't move the needle.

I think I posted these before... only takes a few minutes to watch both. Our basketball program should have the premier weight training facility on campus and should compare with other national non-football (Big East type) programs. We can moan and groan about coaching, but top-notch facilities 'move the needle' with today's recruits. It should have been done yesterday. IB or his successor should have the tools to compete with anyone. C'mon Freddie!

        • I love Fred Vanvleet. He is a man of honor that speaks the truth. He said the basketball weight room facility needs some updating. It will happen with DB leadership. Go Shocks,.

Fred arrived at WSU 10 years ago and departed 6 years ago. Still waiting on those updates. OTOH, the Fred VanVleet Shocker Basketball Training Faciity has a nice ring to that. Fred is capable of making that happen if he wanted to. But apparently he doesn't seem inclined at this point.

Yeah, that’s just silly. Fred doesn’t owe WSU anything.

A lot of people could make it happen but no one is obligated to give WSU anything. I don’t blame them either given how the athletic department and the President have been handling athletics.

                  • I'm not expecting Fred to ever donate here. I get the feeling there is WAY more love for Fred from WSU and it's fans than there is love for WSU from Fred. I expect the vast majority of Fred's donations to go to Rockford

Pretty much how I feel. Which is fine.

I mean, while Fred will make the most of any player in history (and probably already has lol) I don't see anything named after Antoine Carr, Xavier McDaniel, Cliff Levingston....etc.

Not saying those people havent given money. But like was said....a LOT of people could donate money and make this happen.

                        I disagree.

No, he doesn’t have to give any of his money to WSU.

However, if he thinks WSU and fHCGM didn’t contribute anything at all to his success, he is flat out wrong.

He is the one who raised the issue and he is one of small group of folks who could do something about it. That said perhaps there is a reason he doesn't want to do that. He certainly can do whatever he wants wih his money. LOL.

                          • I love Freddie and pretty much everything he's done since I met him a decade ago. Like everyone, he certainly gets to do whatever the eff he wants to do with the money he's so richly earned and I hope he does just that. He's done an awful lot for a lot of people in need so far.

That being said, imo, he doesn't have the right to gripe about the facilities here (or the program in general) anymore. And it should have nothing to do with his status as a Shocker great, perhaps the greatest Shocker of all time, immediate entrance into the HOF and jersey retirement (overdue) or anything else. If he chooses to donate anything, wonderful but if not that's just fine with me as well, and I hope with everyone else too.

But I don't want to hear anymore griping about it.

                            • To me, it sounds like when he raised the issue it was a problem because people or organizations with the money didn’t want to spend any of it to upgrade to help the athletes.

Now that he has the money though, he is doing the same thing.

Again, his money and he can do what he wants.

He just needs to know, that he can be the difference maker he was seemingly asking for in the past.

                              • If I'm remembering correctly...it seems as though when Freddy made those comments about the weight room...he seemed to be suggesting that he was considering spearheading a group of donors (including himself) to get it done. Obviously he's got a lot on his plate but perhaps it's still on the docket.
