  • We have no backup point guard. We have no height or length. We dribble a lot, and some of our guys can't f-ing dribble. We get beat back on defense on fast breaks, but we cannot execute a fast break ourselves. Uggg

    • I was someone who thought IB deserved a shot after last season. Definitely questioning if he's the right man for the job. In watching last night's game, there were several defensive lapses where we gave up easy baskets. The team seems to reflect his demeanor too much for the most part. I see no fire on the sideline and none on the court either. Lack of effort or concentration, should be met with some kind of reaction to get guys attention and focus back where it needs to be. The offense is often, as others have pointed out, too much dribbling around and then jacking up a low percentage shot. There was one sequence last night where we got 4 or 5 rebounds, immediately followed by a quick three point shot , as if we don't get the clock reset. The team doesn't seem to have the necessary discipline to consistently succeed.

      • Outside of a stretch of incredibly hot three point shooting, we outplayed them in nearly every aspect. Less turnovers, less fouls, sizable rebound advantage, more free throws made, equal from 2 point shots, just kind of a wired game.

I've never said anywhere on this board he's a bad player. I've said what the team is missing this year vs. last is an all-conference (3rd team) point guard. Porter is not an all-conference point guard. That's just the truth. This years team has trouble running sets and running fast breaks. In spite of that the team has still lost several close and winnable games that last year were W's. I don't believe the difference between this year and last was covid. That's kind of missing and/or ignoring the obvious.

Porter came out of the gate weak in a big road game. For some reason he woke up when the game was out of hand. He's lucky that euro wasn't called a travel, right after he carried it, and his prayer was answered.
Why are you so bent about the best player on the team?
          Deuces Valley.
          ... No really, deuces.

          • Watched the game on replay. Bottom line is we're just a lower tier team right now. Our talent is not good and we need a roster overhaul. Really the only true upper level guys we have are Dennis and Council. Porter is good on our team because everyone else is so bad. Tyson is a good role player being asked to be the star and he's just not that guy. Pohto has a high ceiling but he is young and needs time to get stronger and more confident. Most of our guys are Summit league level players. Udeze is a Summit League all conference player that is over his head in this league. We need to bring in some men to compete or it will more of the same next year.

I agree that this roster needs a serious overhaul this offseason. If anything, a new roster will definitively tell us if HCIB is up for the job. From our current roster, I hope we can retain Pohto, Council, Porter, Ricks, and Abidde. I suspect (and hope) this coaching staff will be hitting the transfer portal HARD this spring. Heck, I just hope we can get a decent PF for next season. We haven't had a reliable PF since Markis McDuffie.

I'm sure Udeze, Dennis and Etienne want to become "pros" and move one. It will be interesting to see if they pursue that avenue. I'd welcome Dennis back for his leadership.

The one stat that matters we got outplayed. The scoreboard. They were incredibly hot from three primarily because our perimeter defense was really really really lazy and bad. Inexcusable.

Dude is out of his freaking mind. Porter and RCiV are about the only watchable things about this team at this point. He runs the point very well and is a high caliber PG. Plus he does intangibles that a PG at WSU has not done in quite some time. How many break away layups has he saved this year by sprinting back the other way and blocking a shot? It literally seems like one a game.

I think it is time and I think each one of them will move on. I have enjoyed (at times) each one of their contributions and wish them well.

Brown has little player engagement during timeouts. The majority of the time he consults his assistants for more than half of the timeout therefore has little time to communicate the strategy or a correction. His wholesale substitution patterns are for hockey, not basketball. He has no real offensive strategy except dribble, dribble, dribble, pass, dribble, dribble dribble...oh s h i t the shot clock is at :05 I need to chuck up something. Brown rewards repeated mistakes from many players with more significant floor time. He continually let's ETN be the focus and play hero ball without consequences. He still hasn't taught Odeze court awareness and to anticipate a double team and how to pass out of it. He has 13 assists and 46 turnovers. I could go on, but my fingers are getting tired. I hope this helps what you are missing.

Etienne has already said he will be gone. Even if he isn't in the NBA he will move on....no doubt.

Udeze, Dennis, Porter, Grant and Pleasant will likely have graduated. They could easily choose to move on. I hope Porter, at the very least, will see his chance to run the show and stick around.

I honestly think Council and Pohto will be gone. I hope not. I think we need both. But they will likely have good opportunities elsewhere if they want them. Depends on who is in their ear and if they are listenening. But I hope both are back.

I hope Monzy comes back. I still like his motor and what he brings in spurts.

I think Ricks and Abidde will come back since they redshirted. But who really knows.

I definitely hope we can hit the transfer portal hard. Or this year may seem like a dream compared to next year with the roster overhaul that could end up happening.
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!

                          • I like Porter and agree he's the best we have, but I wish he had a speed other than slow.

i received a lot of giggles and a few claps at the bar last night when yelling "you can now take a fu¢king two point shot or run a set... wtf.. will erik stevenson live here forever?"

Why Porter? He's a junior that "technically" has 1 more year. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
