Individual play was a cancer that seemed to spread to several others and is why we

Don’t disagree with that at all. It didn’t work, mainly because he never taught them how to run it, practice it til they got it right, or pull them for not running a play and doing their own thing instead.

As I said, plenty of things to place blame on for HCIB. Putting in plays to help a player get to the next level isn’t one of them.

    • I want to make two observations about this year and then move on to the topic of where I would go from here if I were coach Brown.

First, the biggest difference between this year's team and last year was Alterique Gilbert. Gilbert was a really good point guard and we missed him this year. missed him more than I realized. In a close game, good guards can win a game and bad guards can help you lose. As others have said, Trying to develop Tyson as a point guard didn't work and Porter wasn't good enough either. WSU has more turnovers than assists this year, I think I read that.

This team is like a band. As individuals, they might play well, but together they sound awful. This band needs to break up. This team needs different players.

I would keep Ricky Council 4, Kenny Pohto, and the two redshirts. Everyone else can leave and I wish them good luck in all their future endeavors.

As to coach Brown. IMO, the thoughts expressed about coach Brown and his being fired are not fair and I am being kind.

As to moving forward, the first thing I would do today is call Carl Hall and see if he would join the coaching staff this year. I believe the big guys need a coach and I think he would do well.

WSU and coach Brown needs to establish the team's identity, Does he want to play slow or fast? Does he want to emphasize offense or defense?

Also, I would follow the Gonzaga model to get back to the top of basketball where fans want to be. Starting with scheduling, I would play any team anywhere that was good. I would really focus, as Gonzaga did early on with making sure our guard play was great.

Those are my thoughts for now and come back next year and evaluate where we were then.

      Those are my thoughts.

      • We all know IB will be the coach next year. That is the only likely economic outcome. He can prove he belongs by keeping RC4, CP, KP as Shockers. I don’t know how likely that is, but IB can help the situation by pulling out all efforts including NIL to retain these guys.

TE had talent , but he could have been a better team player this year. He was focused more on his future. The long leash on TE was the biggest factor in our disappointing season. He will play for money next year, however I don’t know where that will be.

We need to put this season behind us and focus on keeping our best players in a WSU uniform as well keeping some role players and the walk ons. The Portal is the future to recruiting as much as I hate it.

Complaining about the AD or the President will not help. Posters on this board including myself cannot control the coming and going of the these individuals.

        • While it may be one and the same as men's basketball, the "Where Do We Go Form Here" for me is a question that for the entire athletic program. Although not sure most fans really care that much about anything outside of men's basketball and a longing for the return of glory days of baseball.

I think the WSU athletic program as a whole is in dire straits. To what degree the program can recover, how long that will take and at what level that will be is a very open and speculative question.

WSU went for the brass ring when they joined the AAC and that was a unique situation for that to happen with being able to pair of with Navy football. While I think most believe that was the right move at the time it was not without risks and was a big financial commitment both in terms of entry fees, walking away from MVC NCAA shares, and a big increase in travel cost. The biggest risks I suppose were possibility of negative consequences from conference realignment but that was next to impossible to quantify at that time.

Unfortunately, this bet has not worked out all that well and WSU will soon find itself as a 2nd class citizen (no football) in significantly watered down conference. How the TV money will shake out as result of the realignment remains to be seen but the way things are going for WSU it's hard to be optimistic about that. Plus it's not a given that the religned conference setup will be stable for long.

The major financial commitment of joining the AAC, the signficant increase in travel costs for this widespread conference, topped off by the Gregg Marshall disaster had pretty much crushed the ICAA financially and pretty much eliminated any financial flexibility. The financial pain and cuts felt across the board a (i.e. the recruiting budget for volleyball being reduce to next to nothing).

On top of that we have NIL and Transfer Portal and relaxed transfer rules to deal with. Not to mention that WSU is a bit of a misfit toy without football which limits its opitons in terms of conference affiliation.

It is hard for me to see any hope absent the big money boy stepping up and bailing the program out financially. At this point there is no indication that is in the works especially with the present leadership of the university and athletic department in place.

A significant downsizing of the importance of athletics at WSU is certainly a possibility. As far as I know we have heard little to nothing from President Muma about how he views the importance of college athletics. Our athletic director appears to be less than dynamic in all areas to say the least. At this point he may just be a water boy to implement whatever President Muma's agenda is regarding athletics. Not the environment that would encourage deep pockets to open up. Plus WSU is somewhat a misfit toy without football.

I can't say that any of our athletic programs have thrived with the move to the AAC. In fact, the opposite may be true. What successes we have had were largely done with atheltes recruited while we were still in the Valley. For example, Volleyball's undefeated AAC Championship in our first year in the AAC. Softball has done as well as any sport but again a lot of the players that formed the core of recent sucess were recruited when the Shocks were still in the Valley.

So, with hindsight, it does not appear the move to the AAC has paid off and with the conference reorganization the propects of it paying off in any signficant way are greatly diminished.

I neither have deep pockets or a magic wand to wave. All I can do is hope for the best and ride the wave wherever that is going to take WSU athletics although it is becoming more and more diffiult to be bought in.

Sorry for the downbeat post but when you feel beaten down that's what you give.

          • The Kansas State Wildcats are looking for a new coach, as Bruce Weber announced his resignation on Thursday, who led the program for a decade. So what will Taylor do now? It’s the fifth head-coaching chance in the Big 12 in the past two seasons, with Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech hir

I can’t even imagine the outrage on here if a couple of these actually came to fruition. It would be very tough to stomach.

I feel so disheartened about our program that this strangely wouldn't bother me. It's not as if we are in the running for a coach. I don't want to say out loud we are stuck but... What a freaking mess. I cannot for the life of me figure out how we are so sucky at contract negotiations we gave a zero time head coach such a huge buy out. So freaking stupid!

K-State has a greater chance to hire me than it does to hire Mark Turgeon. For multiple reasons, it just ain’t happening. Seeing as this “writer” can’t even spell 3G’s first name correctly (seriously, it’s not that hard), I would take his thoughts with a grain of salt.

Well, when the schools having the most success in the AAC right now have small crowds regularly (minus Memphis) this is what you get. Houston and SMU can get decent crowds, but they have smaller arenas.

If the correct schools get good again (Wichita State primarily) then attendance will go up.

But look at the following for Houston, SMU, Tulane....etc. You can't expect it to fill an arena....I don't care WHERE you host it.

I would be very surprised if there are not a lot of calls going back and forth between Area Codes 785 and 575.
                                Very surprised.
Kind of like those who follow flight tracker during the off season.
Is there such a thing as phone calls tracker?

                                That is all.
