Having a big with BBIQ enough to recognize that and be able to use that to pass back out can create looks for others. Unfortunately, the flip side of that is you have to be able to make those open looks. It was the perfect storm of a low IQ 5 man and shooters not makers. Compound that with an oblivious coaching staff and you have disaster.
Yes, Mo's insistence in trying to go through 2-3 people to get to the basket no matter what is definitely a pain point. We definitely could have used Pohto more but he didnt' have great games all the time either. Then becomes the biggest problem to me... we had literally no one after those two. So we had an undersized/low IQ 5 and a raw true freshman... that's it. It's hard to pull Udeze when Pohto is having a bad game because there is no one left. Only have 10 playable players for an entire season is a huge mark on the coaching staff IMO. As big as any in game adjustments because it limits the in game adjustments you can make. There are 13 scholarships for a reason. Use them all. If we can't afford an extra scholarship, take it out of Boatrights raise because he's not properly running the AD at that point (or ever).

Could definitely see that .... whoever got in his head over the summer ruined any chance he had at the NBA.

      • We can't blame recruiting for everything when we return four of our five top scorers from a team that did significantly better.

Our biggest issue is a lack of shooters. But we knew that going in. So why did we take our best shooter out of catch and shoot situations and create an offense that could go full media timeouts without ever going inside the 3pt line? We made our weakness the foundation of our offense.

I'm really hopeful Ricks stays and lives up to his shooting hype. Then again .. we've heard that hype before.

The comparison to last year is good. I think we were at our best this year when Porter operated the PG spot similar to how Gilbert did last year. Which was trying to get into driving lanes. If Porter comes back (big IF), we need to retool the offense to lead with more of that ... but we will need people on the outside capable of hitting those set shots. I don't expect Etienne back so we will need to hope it's Ricks or someone else we bring in.

It would be a total bummer to not see what he has to offer. With this landscape though, all the old rules are gone. Seems like every player is a free agent, every season.

              Guess we'll see

No only free agents .. but combined with NIL .. it's literally going to be a bidding war on free agents with no salary cap.

                • Just want to say, I am very concerned about recruiting. But I don't think that was purely the issue this year; on paper this a thin but talented team by our past standards. I definitely think we had the talent to get 20 wins and finish 4th in the AAC at least.

I am much more skeptical going forward. If we have even normal departures this year I could easily see us bringing in a 15 win roster of 2 star freshmen and low end Jucos and coaching them to single digits.

Agreed. Is there any good reason to not have very low expectations moving forward?

Our Recruiting right now is a massive red flag for this staff ... that can be lined up with the rest of the red flags.

It is scary bad based on the publically available information available.

                            • We finished 7th in the conference in regular season and last in the conference in the tournament. We need players. Anybody sitting on the bench behind Joe and Qua ain't good enough.

Monzy had multiple games where he played five minutes and managed to rack up 2 fouls, 2 turnovers, and usually a missed box out in that time. A change of scenery would likely do him some good, but I think he bears a lot of the responsibility for his own play.
