What is nonsensical about not testing young adults for a virus whom are asymptomatic-a virus that is losing severity (with Omicron) as we speak? If the numbers are increasing, cut out or limit fans again but don’t cancel the games.

Are you trying to be obtuse?

What in the world are we coming to that we’re testing for asymptomatic infection of a disease that is now proving to be far milder than its predecessors? Has ANY Division I athlete or coach been admitted to the hospital during any of their athletic seasons?

Whats the end game here? Do we test for this for eternity?

Let me guess. You’re one of Cold’s PM secret admirers that has to give him props behind close doors?

This is the simplest solution. If you can roll out 7 uninfected players then you play the game and take your lumps.

If ECU was fully vaccinated, then they would not have to cancel. The only people they have to contract trace are those who are unvaccinated.

Did I see somewhere that the PAC has a rule that as long as you have one coach and seven players test negative the game will be played. That's much more reasonable that whatever the hell is going on here, even though being positive at this point isn't all that bad.
                AAC has the same rules

The American Athletic Conference has announced updated operational protocols and procedures related to COVID-19 for the 2021-22 men’s and women’s basketball seasons, retroactive to the start of conference play.

Doc, you are right. The charter flights to the east coat AAC teams are costing the athletic department $60-80,000 per trip. That doesn’t include hotels, food or the bus to get the team to and from the hotel.

Dang, not sure we’ll have any appetite to fly back this year. Frankly, we shouldn’t have to either.

This is the AAC rule. Apparently, half the ECU team came back from Christmas break with Covid

Play a double header when they come to Wichita.

So if I read that correctly, they would’ve had enough players before having to exclude the “close contacts“. So those aren’t even positive tests. just close contacts. Why were they letting players be around each other after Christmas break before they had gotten their test results??

IF ECU was unable to field a team twice last year due to covid and still can't put 7 guys on the court for a game this year, are players who tested positive last year testing positive again this year?

There's no way to put any teeth in the "rule" that if a team has 7 players and 1 coach available they have to play. HIPPA requirements leave the number of healthy people up to self-reporting. If the top guy or two is out, just say you've got 7 guys out.
