  • All the people hyping Tyson that he is this NBA player that just needs to learn this pick and roll stuff is just feeding him rat poison. Look at his stats before this NBA stuff and look at them now. But he is not the first good kid to be fed this rat poison. Time will tell if Coach Brown can get him back on track.

I am still disgusted over these guys choking to a pathetic team like Kstate.

Basically, the so-called offense is now for Porter to bring the ball into the front court, wait for Tyson to run off a couple of screens and kick out to the wing, wait for either Mo or Pohto come out 25' away from the basket to set another screen...then let Tyson find a way to jack up an off balance, forced 25' shot while the others stand and watch him try to demonstrate his version of Seth Curry.

The physical limitations of this team are obvious, none of the post players have any lateral movement and are easy to attack - how many Jr High screen and rolls do you need to see?
This why Jackson may make some silly mistakes, but he has to play more. They just don't have any one (other than Pohto who can at least disrupt with his length and has the potential to hedge screens) other than CJ.
KState had nothing inside and abused the WSU screen and roll defense. What happens when the schedule turns AAC against teams that DO have legit post players?
I don't know what the Abidde kid has, but the coaches know or he would see the floor at least for a couple minutes.

      That is all.
      Scary.

        Doc, agreed.
As I watched the game again, especially during the what seemed like two hours when they didn't score in the second half, I kept thinking of the Land of Enchantment.
        Just a random comment...

        That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

        • Several posters delighted in making fun of Weber as a coach but he clearly
out coached IB yesterday. Where was the zone against a team that
struggled as much as ourselves from deep? The one good thing that I
can possibly see coming from yesterday was that maybe it will be a wake up
call for IB and TE. For crying out loud stop trying to groom TE as an NBA
PG b/c it is killing our offense. Another game with assists below ten. That is
pathetic and a recipe for losing. Keep the ball moving and move without the
ball to create good shots..........too much standing around watching TE or one
of the other guards dribble dribble dribble. Poor team chemistry and has been
since the last two games of last year.

          • I'm usually an IB defender, but this is on the coaching staff. No adjustments. We didn't get Mo the ball in the last half of the first half and the second half. Zero defensive adjustments. At least he's taking responsibility for that.

TE is NOT an NBA player. He came into the year saying he was going to be a playmaker. Dude shoots the ball every time he touches it. Multiple possessions with him not hitting Mo on an open roll, someone open on the perimeter, etc. Out of our 53 total shots, he took 20 of them. Insane. He was a defensive liability.

Don't understand the hate on DD.

Hope CP isn't out too long. He is our only real option at pg right now.

Joe Pleasant with a +10 on the game. Council -19, Grant -17.

It's not hate for me with DD. He can defend and rebound (which is important) and that is it....PERIOD.

                • Did anyone count how many airballs TE had?

                  • Dex does everything but hit wide open shots. Nobody is asking for him to be some big time playmaker on offense. Just hit at least a few of the wide open looks he gets every game. That's really not asking too much from him.

I'm still going with more than baskets made. At the very least, those two stats tied.

                      • HCIB apologized saying that the team "came up short?" Came up short? Coming up short is playing a great game, going blow to blow with your opponent and you lose on a couple of mistakes. Last night was a dumpster fire.

He also said "we'll learn from it." So does that mean TE does not have a green light to shoot as soon as he crosses half-court? That we don't enter the Matrix and see the same pick and roll dunk four times? Thought I was watching a highlight, nope just the same play that we couldn't stop. Maybe we switch up defenses, or that we play under control and the same players don't turn the ball over?

I hope they do learn from this game. Time will tell.

                        • Bad performance in a winnable game. It happens to the best of 'em. Just ask the Chickens. Point guard? We don't need no steenkin' point guard!

What bad teams has k-state lost to this year? For the kenpom geeks how big was the scoring margin in the cats' wins this season so far? Honest questions.

                          • For reference from today's NET. This starts off as a Q2 loss as KState at 69 in the first NET.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I have heard a coach say "We'll learn from it." We will see if Brown has a coaching backbone. This game was truly a baseline game. The following are baseline observations even from a Biddy perspective.

                                1. Brown and coaching staff has no direction when it comes to running a consistent offense (motion, sets, spacing, player role awareness).
                                2. Brown and coaching staff struggle with coaching execution of ball screens.
                                3. Brown and coaching staff lack awareness around giving ETN the Steph Curry green light treatment.
                                4. Brown and coaching staff lack awareness around the negative connotations it sends the rest of the team around perspective #3.
                                5. Brown and coaching staff doesn't have confidence in their ability to make consistent adjustments. Guarding the Wildcats pick and roll, mixing in zone, mixing in occasional full court pressure from the start.
                                6. Brown and coaching staff have not been timely with player rotations based on in-the-moment game flow.
                                7. Brown and coaching staff need to take a page out of the FVV book "Let Em Hang." Oh wait...you have to have em first.

I totally get why Brown got the job late last year. We were in purgatory if you will. The Shox discovered their fools gold, although to the outside world it appeared Brown was the second coming of Bobby Fischer. If WSU didn't give the job to Brown at that time, they risked losing ground in the recruiting wars. In the short term it seemed like the appropriate thing to do. What if they had waited till after the season? It would have been a more traditional path to hire. There would have been a richer target environment, and one that would have created a longer term vision.

I am not saying hiring Brown was good or bad. After giving it much thought it was a stressful decision by WSU for sure. I may very well have made the same decision, but being I was not part of the process I can be couch potato critic for the day. Brown can develop, no doubt about it. His learning curve and leash has a very condensed time however. He has to be introspective, vulnerable to admit failures, aware enough to see the need to change behaviors, and brave enough to lead with sound strategy, determination, grit and a personal resolve to communicate this behavior to coaches and players with trust, buy-in and accountability. That's what leaders do. If he does this he will be successful, if he doesn't the trust in him will wain at a rapid pace.
