  • Why this board defaults back to an IB/FHCGM comparison is comical. IB will lose almost every time in that discussion and it is irrelevant. Can’t believe I’m saying this but it makes more sense to compare him to Bob Richey.

Hopefully, he didn’t drive his Chevy into the levy… wouldn’t blame him if he did.

Why did Udeze not touch the ball every single time down the floor? He's had his ups and downs but it was obvious from the very beginning he could pretty much score at will.

Etienne with 20 shots. 38% of the team's shots. I wonder how many times a player took 38% of the team's shots in Marshall's tenure. Maybe when Cle scored 40 against SIU? If Udeze would have taken 20 shots last night, the Shockers probably win by 10 or more.

I get there are times when you have to put up a guarded 30 footer with 2 seconds left on the shot clock. How many times did Etienne take a guarded horrible shot with 15+ seconds left? How many times did he take a horrible shot without anyone else even getting to touch the ball? I'm sure he's a good teammate and we need him to play well to have success. But quit trying to be a hero. And if he can't then he needs to sit for a few minutes.

8 assists? That's terrible. A little off-topic but outside of FVV, who is the last true point guard recruited in as a freshman who stayed 4 years and contributed at all? Wendell Preadom? Dmetric Williams? That's a serious problem in my mind.

I can't remember the last time I was that disgusted with a loss. I guess GM did lose to Evansville at home, and then end up in the Final 4 a month later.
Wendell finished at Houston Baptist , I believe

Or maybe that guy down in the Land of Enchantment.

Nevertheless, HCIB did a great job last year holding everything together in a mostly lame duck, weird year and then bringing in some nice talent (I think). He certainly deserves more of a chance to fix what ails the Shockers. I don't expect HCIB is the kind of coach that would be very comfortable calling his players out in public. So, whatever he does will be out sight as far as John Q. Shocker Fan is concerned. The only thing we have and will have to judge him on is how his teams plays on game days.

He has 4 very winnable games between now and the end of the month and quite a bit of practice time to get some things fixed before the AAC opener on New Year's Day against Memphis.

The Shocks will not be easing into the AAC Schedule as they play Memphis, Houston, Tulane and Cincinnati in the first half of January. With the possible exception of Tulane, that is about a challenging of a start as the Shocks could get. On a positive note 3 of those games are at Koch Arena with only Houston being on the road.

Memphis and Houston are 11:00 am Saturday start times and Cincinnati is a noon Sunday start time. Those start times are a bit unusual aren't they?

For me, I don’t think it is appropriate to bring FHCGM into any conversation because that era has passed. However, we went through ups and downs in the past under our past regime, and I always had confidence that the right buttons would be pushed, and we would come out of it successfully ( note our NIT Final 4 ending in a year with an inexperienced team in the beginning). This is new for IB, and I’m not confident that we will end up pointed in the right direction.

            • Looks like the blueprint to beating the shox. Guard ETN out to 35 feet. Get right in his face because he doesn't get to the rim anyway on drives and he won't try to create for anyone else. Give him all the contested 3s and fade away twos he wants. And that number seems to be 20.

Looked like the drake game to me.

All you have to do is wait until the last 15 seconds and defend a clock play. Doesn’t take rocket science to realize that the Shocker coaches have NO creativity.

It's a bad place to play a team that's going to have a lot of fans there too - if a WSU player makes a shot, people cheer, and if they miss a shot, people cheer. Confuses the heck out of the players. Throw in a small logo, a plethora of 3 point lines, and an ice rink underneath, and it's a recipe for a L.

Another issue is the coaching staff - they should go back to wearing suits and ties. Are shoe companies paying coaches to wear their logos to help the cash flow of the athletic department? If so, get some ties with the logos and throw the suits back on. Casual wear is for practices and football coaches. Just look at Memphis - they've gone back to wearing suits and they're playing well.... ok, they're a bad example because they've lost their last 3 games, but you get the point.

Finally, the supply chain issues are to blame as well because the team doesn't currently have what it takes to make baskets. Heck, it's even affected the Dillons free donut promotion - they've scaled it back to just donut holes.
Can we blame this loss and Porter’s injury on the Stevens? If so, put me in that camp.

                  • Nothing original here, but TE's offensive efficiency rating has fell to the third lowest on the team and even worse against good competition.

I have defended IB but he cannot continue to let a player in a slump like this continue to go 1 on 5 trying to hunt his shots. Good players let the shots come to them through the offence and they come to good players.

IB needs to learn quick how to get his wagon unhitched from TE and start making the tough decisions a coach has to make.

                    • i give k-state some credit. they showed a bit of mtxe yesterday. it seems like the scouting report for k-state said:

"just hang tough. don't quit, even when you're getting d'ed up like wsu does, at a high level. their offense is going to be **** with a capital S.. just trust us.. it will be."

Playing on ice can be slippery, but there was some quicksand there as well:

Did you know HCIB is the reigning AAC Coach of the Year? Really.

What's next? Bench Udeze because he doesn't play D? Oh, wait...

In his first full season as SMU coach Tim Jankovich was AAC COY. Have you heard of him since? Now I am not saying Brown is going down that road, but don't throw out a weak argument like that please.
