Those are just low-percentage shots. And we take a lot of them. For every TE game-winner, we threw away about 10 bad shots. I'm glad we won, I'm glad the shot fell for TE, but our offense is manure. Are there any sets we run at all? What does IB do during timeouts? Do they even have a clipboard?

I believe this game is a harbinger of what is to come.. and not in a good way IMO. We have atrocious assist numbers and make some pretty dumb turnovers. But the most important thing of all, our shot selection continues to be garbage. We just don't value possessions or shots it seems. I like a lot of pieces of what we have but I don't like how they're implemented and put together.

I know, I know. It's only game 1 and it was against a "decent" team. But I just don't see NCAA caliber here.

I get we can’t, and shouldn’t, throw out the first half.

However the 2nd half was considerably better than the first. Shot 43%. Lots of better looks.

      That indicates adjustments made, no?

“But I just don’t see NCAA caliber here” - Houston just had to get to OT to beat a significantly worse team. Didn’t ranked Virginia lose to Navy tonight ?

I know you hate IB for some reason, whatever, I think that’s dumb, but to each their own.

However, again these posts with opinions like that 40-minutes into the season are just stupid. Sorry.

And utterly predictable from your grousy negative attitude the past like 13 months.

Probably Jamie Arnold or that one guy that embarrassed WSU with his buddy back in the early 90s...John Smith maybe. They were skilled.

            X wasn’t an AA as a freshman.

            • Looked it up:

Arnold averaged 12 and 9 as a freshman
Smith averaged 13 and 7 as a freshman

X was pretty dog gone impressive and he did a lot of things that don’t show up in the stats. The guy was a fighter and was one of the most determined Shockers I’ve ever seen….and yes, as a Freshman as well. There wasn’t a ball that he didn’t think was his to own.

Who knows. They're moving to CUSA and might be an option if we have to add more teams down the road.

Probably not though as I don't think there's a need for two teams from Alabama.

                      • Count me as a guy who would prefer Monzy and Joe even those minutes out. I really liked Monzy last year and wish he would have played more over Trey Wade, also. Seems like he might be in the doghouse or something.

                        • We run a DDMO offense for uber athletic players, without uber athletic players. We’re not bad, but we don’t have that type of personnel.

GM had about 50-75 sets to run. I’m not sure how many sets (meaning not a part of the motion offense) we saw outside of a play or two. Maybe I’m wrong.

The last possession we had was awful even though Etienne made the shot.

Monzy may not see as much time on the floor this year. He just doesn’t provide enough offensive ability.

Liked what I saw from Craig Porter.

Dennis had a sneaky good game.

Our front line is not very good for the AAC so Tre King would be a welcome addition.

No Jalen Ricks, Isaac Abide, or Chaunce Jenkins at all.

Etienne is a pro, no way around it. He has the hard and soft skills like Fred did.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player high five a Koch family member at the end of a game but I’m pretty sure I saw it last night.

That’s top notch professional analysis right there.

You misunderstood the question. Traditional Post. Pivot. Center. Anchor. I thought I clarified that.

Who said X was an AA as a Frosh? What's that got to do with on-the-court debut performance in the Roundhouse, regardless of status? That team did have a McDonald's AA Frosh who was a Pivot but didn't have as good a debut as X did. X was 6 for 6 from the field. Or was it 7 for 7? Don't remember how many boards he had.

                              • I agree, good analysis by Kel. I'd add this. I thought Monzy played off #11 too much
which is why they switched to DD. I was disappointed that TE didn't attack the rim on
the last possession with about ten seconds to go.......had the deep step back on his
mind all the way. It was a low % play. Twelve assists is not going to cut it. We are
very easy to defend - no ball movement or perimeter reversals. Absolutely nothing as
far as low post back to the basket scoring. Yes, Mo is a small center but he has a
quickness advantage he has used in his favor in the past. Didn't see it last night.
We have to have more ball movement / assists or it's going to be a long painful season.
