Well, I remember when we were in the "lowly" MVC and hiring Rice's head basketball coach. Now, we're in the same conference. They haven't had a basketball coach with an overall winning record since the '50's.

Our exit fee is in our contract. It was linked a while ago when Taylor I'd a request for it. It's 5 million.

Keeping the existing 8 at the current payout for the next 10 years likely means no one else is jumping to another conference unless it's a power conference. Financially it wouldn't make sense. All the other non power conferences make less than the AACs 7 million a year. Plus there will be a 30+ (depending on negotiations could be more) million dollar split of the exit fees (plus whatever is left of UConn's). There will also be a split of 12-15 million in entrance fees (2-2.5 million per entering team). That's a lot of money to leave to take a paycut and pay an exit fee. No other non p5 league is clear cut better in football to make it worth it.

Now for WSU it's a different story but only to the big East. I believe they make roughly 4 mil per school. So we could double our payout for a league that is clearly a better basketball league. I just don't think that invite is coming.

            No doubt.

But in my reality I am only interested in the round-ball sports and that WSU is treated with respect to their contributions to the league.

This new league composition reinforces that WSU either needs football or start figuring out a non football league. AAC was a football league with good basketball, now it's just a football league. Which is fine except WSU doesn't play football. So shockers sacrificing level of basketball league for a sport they don't even participate in.

On the plus WSU baseball will now be in a conference with Rice, Tulane, ECU, and Charlotte. To bad it's not the 00's, but hopefully Wedge gets it going and Rice gets it turned around as well.

I really believe that with the community support, basketball brand, and central location WSU would find itself in the best non power 5 league playing football regardless of their initial football success and whatever league that ends up being. I know this will never happen but really seems like it should.

I have no doubt that Bardo would entertain the possibility, because he knew how important that a national athletic program could be to his academic goals.
Still don’t see the Big East in our future. We don’t fit with those schools plus we would need to fly all our other sports to the east coast except for Cretin. Would you rather go to NYC or Ft Worth for the conference BB tournament?

Ummmm, Madison Square Garden, no brainer. And if SLU and Wichita State join, suddenly, there are many more relatively close destinations, Omaha, Stl, Chi, Mil, Indy and Cincy. Baseball would suck, though.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

How many Bluejay fans go to NYC for the tournament? There were thousands that went to St Louis. The MVC tournament was among the best in those days.

I'm with MVJ. I "might" be able to convince my wife to take a trip to Fort Worth, whereas I KNOW I could convince her to go to NYC.

                          Couldn't agree more.

Yes, DFW is easier and cheaper for most fans, but NYC and MSG are the Mecca for a reason.

I've long been saying SLU and WSU would be great adds for the BE. If Xavier didn't block Dayton, they'd be perfect as well. Get's the conference to 14 teams.

They could have 7 team divisions:

WSU, CU, SLU, Butler, Marquette, DePaul, Xavier. The West division.

The rest in the East division.

It would be a dream come true.

SLU sucks and most in St Louis think of them as an afterthought.

Yes, I could see that for the first year but I and many others in Shocker Nation go the conference tournament every year. I just don’t see many going to NYC every year. Just my preference.

SLU announcement is just a building campaign.
