  • Cold keepin' it real. Also, dropping some knowledge that I was unaware of - not ever getting an at-large bid.

    • 1. Shocks shot 80% in the second half. Went 20/25.
      2. Shocks only shot 3 3 balls in the second half. Made 2. So they went 2/3 in second half.
      3. Shocks finally shut #12 Cochran down. He only scored 3 points in the second half.
      4. Cohen and Czerapowicz were a different story.
      5. Our athleticism just killed the Wildcats. We were faster to the ball and faster on the break and jumped higher for rebounds. Faster everywhere.
      6. Kyles was the only player, who shot for less than 50%. He was 2/6.
      7. Shocks won rebound battle - 33 to 22. The leading rebounder for the Shocks was Joe with 7.

Davidson looks like a whiter, smaller NIU. I would compare them to Friends University in regards to the "Eye Test". I think they are fibbing on their roster heights. One of their players (#20 I think) was actually looking at the ball as he dribbled down court. I saw another instance where I guard was jumping while he was dribbling kind of like your kid sister does when she is given a basketball to dribble for the first time.

Cohen would be a nice player for the Valley. He looks like the typical INSU/E-ville/NIU player that always manages to burn us; a guy overlooked by better schools because of his build/athleticism, but has a ton of skill. The Swede's dunk still has me scratching my head. Where the FK did that come from?

We may not get a lot of respect for this win, but Davidson is a scrappy team that plays VERY hard at home. Intense application of effort can bridge athleticism gaps. Speaking of athleticism gaps.. how the hell did this team beat KU? Were they 25 of 30 from three?

I hate these scrappy battles with teams that are playing in their Superbowl. Give me a lazy Providence or Texas Tech any day. This conference has never had an at-large berth in the history of their existence. Do you know how bad it would have looked had we lost? We're supposed to be a projected 4-5 seed. A loss today and we are an instant 7. Dump this #&@$ing tournament.

        Hi.

        • Davidson is a real good team that is really tough to beat at home. Thank goodness the Shockers are ROAD WARRIORS.

Davidson looks real good for next year, considering their best players are juniors and sophomores. A gritty team with no quit.

My bad then; your post sounded like criticism (e.g. "They wouldn't shoot that well if they were not getting layups.")

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I was listening to Mike and Bob (and the radio was about as far ahead of the game as I have ever experienced) and wearing my lucky Go Shox muffler that might daughter knitted for me and I did not make a post during the game.

This has been my routine lately and I'm not changing it as long as the Shocks keep playing at this level. (Yeah, I know -- a member of the dumb masses).

For some reason this routine seems to calm me. About the only time I was very demonstrative was when Ben hit the 3 late to put the Shocks up by 21 (or thereabouts) and I wasn't too thrilled with our play between the 3 minute and 2 minute late in the game when we seemed to relax, lose focus and definitely lost our aggression. Of course, the game was pretty much out of reach at that point, but I think I did release at least a small amount of gastric juices at that point.

Actually, and no disrespect to Dave Dahl who I like a lot, I really enjoy Bob Hull's commentary. I think he does a good job. Dave may have been Wally Pipped.

I think I will watch the replay now and see what the TV guys had to say.

Bracket Busters gives little bitty schools national television and a temporary shot in the arm of pure adrenaline. This was Davidson's Superbowl and they gave it everything they had until they had no more. You could send 65% of the BCS schools in the country down to Davidson and put it on ESPN and they would probably lose. That doesn't mean Davidson is a better team. Bracket Busters should be pitting schools like Wichita State against the sub .500 teams of BCS conferences on a neutral court. They are the ones that always complain that they should have been in the Dance over a "Mid-Major". What in the hell does it prove beating a team in a conference ranked #23 in a league of 32 conferences. Will Davidson get an at-large if they beat us? Hell no. It makes absolutely no sense. Most of the schools in their conference and conferences like them would be buy games for our preseason schedule.

I think we get them at Koch Arena the year after next.

                          Sweet 16s -2
                          Elite 8s - 2 (last one in 2008)
And a Regional third place game - whatever that means...

I think the Shox have 8 total appearances -if I am not mistaken....

That's just dumb. You sound like fans of KU and other big teams explaining why they won't play teams like Wchita State (which is a lot closer to scrappy team status than big name status). Who cares if they're a scrappy team playing in their Super Bowl? You think we're not going to run into those teams in the tournament? It is almost literally their Super Bowl there.

Give me a game against a scrappy team playing in their Super Bowl over a lazy Procidence or Texas Tech any day! You want an appearance game. I'd rather have a game that actually prepares us for the tournament. KU loses to those scrappy teams playing in their SB all the time because they're too busy playing lazy teams.

And if we lost, that's on us, not the system. It's a tough game against a team giving their all. If we want to make any noise in March, we beat those teams. If we choke in those games, I don't care what our ranking is or how people view us, because we won't be winning the games that matter any way.

If we lost today, we didn't deserve our 4/5 seed. Maybe a win over a big name would matter more for seeding, but that's not an option. We don't have the option to play Texas Tech at the end of the season. We did have the chance to play a solid team on the road on ESPN, that we wouldn't have had otherwise. No way does winning that game hurt us. Not in how ready we are for the tournament, not in our seeding. We won, and that win benefits us immensely. Easy answer: just win.
