According to the governor of Texas, Texas gets just over 10% of their energy from renewable sources. According to CNN, wind farms in Canada are producing energy, but Texas does not have the de-icing equipment used in more northern climates.
That leaves nearly 90% of Texas' energy capacity from fossil fuel sources. Some of Texas' fossil-fueled power plants have been shut down because they will fail in the temperatures Texas is seeing. Others are shut down because they can't get fossil fuels delivered in these conditions.
I don't know what Texas did, but blaming renewable energy could only account for 10% of their loss of energy. The rest is the inability of their fossil fuel generation to operate under extended low temperatures. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
