I understand wanting to control the clock, but you also don't want empty possessions at the end of an undecided game. One of my biggest issues.
I agree. I think the same thing every time we do it. This almost never gives us a good shot!

    • It's like they basically stop attacking on offense, yes.

      • I haven't seen anyone since Clevin Hannah who could consistently do anything in the under 10 seconds situation.

Either the Shox are year-after-year incapable of executing that play or Marshall has to take a lot of the blame. It seems the under 10 seconds play has a single screen that's easily defeated. Other teams seem to have multiple screens for both the dribbler and another guy trying to get loose.

        • The under 10 second plays are effective when we are able to get the ball inside to Stutz or Hall. It's only when the opponents essentially cut Stutz off time and again that we get into jack-up-three mode.

          • I've seen Rags take it to the hole late in the clock many times.

It's pretty common to see the perimeter guy waving Stutz and Hall up to the elbow for screens. Then they fail to execute the curl and end up dribbling to the other side of the perimeter and attempt to repeat the failed screen, instead of trying to establish position for an entry pass.

Concerning Joe (Rags)… and please ‘flog’ me if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread. I have concerns about his recent attitude. Maybe Demetric’s increased playing time is grating on him? He appeared to be having a ‘pity party’ and displayed a couple of ‘temper tantrums’ during timeouts… especially when coach didn’t put him back in (likely because of 4 fouls). I just didn’t see a ‘what’s good for the TEAM attitude’ being displayed by him. I know he’s a fiery competitor, but time is running out on his career and he needs to be a team player before it’s too late… we need all oars rowing in the same direction down the stretch. Maybe I’m all wet with my observation?

                    • I hope someone asks on the next coaches show why 7 players played 270 of 275 minutes. I thought we were supposed to be deep? Does he have that little confidence in Jake White?

Yessir. Once the other team makes that adjustment and cuts of the lane there is no second option on that play other than to repeat. But since the adjustment is there, why do they think it will work the second time with less than 5 seconds on the clock? Well it doesn't and up goes the panicky three ball. And to add insult to injury, either Stutz or Hall is stuck at the elbow and out of position for a decent offensive rebound attempt.

                        Meh, they'll figure it out.

+1000, WSU has an unbelievably efficient offense that typically burns a little bit of clock while making the defense work before taking a shot. I have no idea why HCGM would allow the defense to execute perfectly while standing still for 24 seconds. I guess I have so much confidence in the standard offense to watch us let the other team off the hook.

Unfortunately, the logic prevails throughout most coaches so I must be missing something.... Makes you wonder why they don't play this way every single time.
