Gimmick defenses are usually employed by teams who don't have any other options and usually not successfully because you don't play that defense often. Coaches want their game plan to be solid, not playing something that opens them up in other places (like a box in one where you open your self to offensive rebounding). There is some validity to the belief that one player can't beat you and you need to do your best on that one player and don't let the other players beat you.

I don't personally believe in a zone for a significant of the game. It's great for a change of pace. We aren't good enough of a zone team to play it for a major portion of the game. You can't work on everything especially when you only have 2-3 practices between games. Most teams today use zone intermittently combined with pressure to throw teams off. They use it and come back to it for short times during the game.

All Syracuse uses is a zone. Teams don't play multiple defenses very often today (you may find a team or two) for a length of time. They largely rely on a defense and use pressure defenses, etc. to change things up.

Geez, let me be the first to apologize on behalf of Shocker Nation for WSUfan. He once again successfully was able to piss off an opponents message board by simply being nothing more than annoying gnat that just doesn't go away. Let it be to no surprise that he was also chased off of ShockerNet for his off-the-wall ramblings and incoherence. WSUfan (aka SpanglerFan), please stop being a douche. Leave them alone. You've already dropped about 100 posts in the last 3 days here.

As to the game itself, I think not having Stutz can sometimes be a good thing for this WSU team. With Stutz, we are a bit slower and the offense is taught to always go through him. It limits us a bit.

I still remember the 45 point beatdown you guys laid on us in Wichita in 2003. That was impressive. Let's just call it even now.. :-D

The comment by Hi got me thinking. I realized recently that ShockerNet is often not even worth reading but I hadn't thought much about the facts that it was uninteresting, predictable and somewhat boring. The lack of veracity in his comments helped me decide that there is little reason to visit there in the future.

My friend, I have yet to be offended by anything you've posted. I hope you stick around. Of course, I'm not as emotionally tied to the current situation as many ... I quit caring about wins and losses by SIU basketball a couple of years ago, and I'm confident Lowery will be shown the door at the end of this year, so we're just playing out the string in my book. None of these wins or losses matter anymore.

What you are running into here is what happens within families. Everybody in a family can make fun of how dysfuntional they are but if somebody from the outside points out that fact it's go time. :lol:

Great point about how it's like a family situation. When I was nine years old, my older brother beat the **** out of a kid (older and bigger than I) for making fun of me in the very way my brother had been making fun of me 10 minutes before. :lol:

I like WSUfan's posts--it's nice to have an outside perspective sometimes, and he has tread lightly and been respectful, at least until some people here turned on him for having the audacity to not be an SIU alum and thinking that Wichita is a more interesting place than Carbondale.

What is good for the parts, is good for the sum of the parts, a stronger conference is good for all involved. Right now SIU sure as hell is not pulling their weight. We deserve the scrutinty of the other team's fans.

And it really sucks.

I dont mind someone telling me my golf game sucks from the curb....just dont come in my house, make yourself at home and start telling me you really sucked a$$ on the course today fats :-)

Unfortunately he also has a tendency to be a bit sanctimonious at times. He really means well but, after one of the many defeats of WSU at the hands of the Salukis, his funny bone broke and it has never healed. Please don't think ill of him for his handicap but encourage him to learn to be a little irreverent about sports; after all, basketball isn't cancer research or rocket science (well, except it is rocket science for a certain MVC coach.) ;)

When the re-seating took place x years ago, a Athletic Department staffer assisted me. I remember that he said the seats are of different widths. I seem to recall that he said the seats have three different widths.

With the aid of his information, I selected the widest seats. Just a couple of inches adds markedly to comfort.
