That might allow him to interview for the job, but I don't think that gets it handed to him. Unless he greatly exceeds expectations, others must be reached out to and see what we see.

    • I like IB as an assistant. WSU is at the point we need a proven winner at the NCAA level. Anything less is like spinning the roulette wheel...a lot of hoping...hello Mike Cohen.

Thank you. Your crazy comment fits in perfectly with many others currently on here. I can't list them all.

There is a lot more to determining the HC position than a “lofty” 5th place finish in the AAC.

People are choosing to forget about how bad the team struggled the first part of last year before finishing strong. Hoping for a somewhat similar situation this year, with so many new players.
After WSU 15-1 start, they went 8-7.

During the 8-7 stretch they had no notable wins and had 2 losses to UH, 2 losses to cincy and loss to Memphis, UConn and Tulsa.

              • To me the $64000 question is whether GM would have won against Mizzou this weekend. Under the circumstances, I don't think so. So I can't blame IB for a loss. Now it boils down to the future. We are falling FAR behind the 8-ball here, with IB handicapped in recruiting having to tell players he doesn't know if he'll be the coach next year. Hiring a totally different HC and staff will put us 2 years behind in recruiting. I don't know the best scenario, but I'm steeling myself for a few mediocre years.

                • It will take one hell of a year for IB to be offered the HC job. My thought is anything short of making The Dance, he is currently interviewing for HC job outside of a top 100 program. Billy Kennedy will be the front runner for Job, which might help from another mass exodus and jumpstart next recruiting class. If IB stays on, he is actively perusing other HC opportunities.

You are correct. I was thinking about the year before.

                    • I’m extremely nervous that Darron Boatright is still in the position to make the next coaching move.

I still am finding it hard to comprehend why he is still employed. Nevermind his numerous other shortcomings, I find it hard to believe he knew nothing about the Marshall stuff the entire time. And if that’s true, why is he employed?

                      ... No really, deuces.

                        Couple mitigating factors.

There is potential for this team with maybe an extra piece or two. So if IB is made permanent and can keep the core ... that's a possibility to not drop for long.

If we land a big name coach in the spring ... there will be NCAA free agency this year. Everyone gets a free transfer. We land a splash big name hire, he can very quickly pick up some really good pieces to fit whatever his system is and have them eligible for next year.

There’s just too much up in the air to try and predict anything.

As it stands we have one scholarship to fill for next year. Hardly a make or break situation for Isaac Brown or whoever else we hire.

Again, things could change but that’s why I’m not too worried about it at this point. It could still go many different ways.

I don’t think we are the only ones who want to see WSU men’s basketball continue to succeed. That doesn’t guarantee we make the right hire when the time comes but I don’t believe it will be for lack of trying. We shall see.

I hope that’s not the case. Nothing against Billy Kennedy but he would be an underwhelming hire. He would be fifth of my list at best.

                            • Mizzou is going to win several games this year by 10+ points. They beat a ranked Oregon team by 8.

I think your guess is right on. OSU could do to us Saturday what they did to us 3 years ago. That frosh is the real deal, and he will be a good test for CJ's self-proclaimed junkyard dog mentality.
