  • Maybe some local real estate investors can beef up the strip club scene in Wichita!

Might go a long way towards attracting a certain HC out there!

    • Would Jans take the job if offered? Most likely yes. It's been a known that he and his wife love Wichita. It's a better job, with better pay in a better conference and someplace he's familiar with and loved. Any expectation of him to have publicly said anything while employed elsewhere is a crazy ridiculous expectation.

If Boatright doesn't reach out to Jans, he's beyond inept. If Brown has a good year, he should be considered. But there's no way you just hand him the keys without seeing all of you options.

Don’t think we’ll be doing much building or rebuilding. Only Trey & Alterique are set to depart next year, and I suppose it’s inevitable we probably see a transfer. Just think we’re gonna have 85% of this roster back next year. GM did the building part for us

Yep. This was a good year to have the sh!t hit the fan if it was going to happen. It's basically a throw away year with everyone getting an extra year if they want it.

            • If Brown is doing any recruiting, he's doing it for himself, and not necessarily for WSU. If someone else gets the HC job, he's likely to get a HC job somewhere with the way he's handled the Shox (to this point in the season). Any active recruiting contacts he might have now, he would want to keep for himself at his new job.

Yes it’s called self preservation. He’s gone, he knows it, and he’s planning ahead.

                  • I will preface this post with saying I don't know if IB is the right hire, but the more success he has and longer we go I think it will be harder NOT to hire him.

The current environment can change, there are many unknowns going forward. However, I will play fortune teller.

If IB continues to have success, and not sure what "success" is defined at (finishes top 3 in AAC, makes tournament, even wins a game maybe... not sure), and WSU hires a new HC, there will be second and third order effects.

                    1. IB doesn't stay, why would he after being successful and not be given a HC job.

                    2. We more than likely lose the coaching staff after the new HC, even Jans, will bring in his guys.

                    3. We lose x amount of players off of this team. The players love IB, and with the transfer rules certain ones will leave. Pretty sure TE would stay, but after two coaches that he liked leaves, maybe he is tests the waters. TE, and I think DD, are the leaders that hold this team together. But do we lose some of our promising newcomers: RCIV, Porter, CJ?

                    4. If good players leave, then we have to rebuild again. The new HC might have high level caliber players in his pipeline, he might not. That puts us behind a year or more.

If IB is successful, and WSU goes in a different direction are they guilty of "the grass is always greener" mentality that we accuse players of when they transfer?

If Marty jumped out of his DeLorean back in May and said that on 12 Jan WSU would be 8-3, ranked 3rd in the AAC with already beating #2 Tulsa, and were competitive with #1 Houston. I think we all would think Greg had done a hell of a job of pulling this team together and that's why he's a great coach...

                      Yes.

Coach Kennedy is here to help this season. Anything is possible, but I would be surprised if he returned under any scenario.

Your last sentence is interesting......Given that it's most likely we're going to hire someone that's a coach right now, it would make sense to wait until the season is over to interview everyone. That would give you the most options with the least amount of restrictions it would seem to me.

I'm not terribly concerned about recruiting, and what I mean by that is that this year is going to be mostly a throwaway because of CV restrictions and so many players taking an extra year. I doubt we'd hit a bunch of home runs anyway under these conditions, so wait, get the right guy in charge, the find the fill ins we need. Incoming '22 will be what matters.

I like everything about this post - A LOT! The point about Etienne playing under 3 different coaches in 3 years, when he really liked the first two is something to think about.

#4 is also one to think about. Jans may have a nice list of recruits, but would the players he's recruiting to NMSU be players he would recruit for competition in the AAC. Or would Brown be more likely to have some contacts with recruits likely to be competitive in the AAC.

Then there's that last paragraph. If Marshall was still the coach and the Shox were where they are now, this message board would be flooded with the great job GGG was doing and how this year proved that he belonged in the HoF.

                        • 2. In all likelihood Jans would keep at least Lou from the current staff were he hired. He's coached with him before, it's almost too easy. Lou is also popular with the current players, fwiw.

If Brown completes this season with a record that meets or exceeds what was expected of GGG, the man is owed a shot. Perhaps a three year contract. Let's face it, Brown has taken what should have been a shitshow of a season and put us in a position for the conference championship (top 3). At least so far he has.

Disagree to the 3 year. If we hire him needs to be probably 5+ years with a manageable buyout. 3 year doesn't show we are confident in him and he can't tell the players he's recruiting he's even under contract for their senior year.

                              • I think the Shox are in a strong position regardless. Still strong support and players for good coach and can always lean on IB and offer favorable contract if they go that direction.
