Go Shockers - RH: Podcast with Former Shocker Toure Murry
Listen to the podcast
Former Shocker Toure Murry joins the podcast with an update on his NBA journey. Murry is a player development coach with the Philadelphia 76ers and he describes his job, what makes Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey special and how he is helping former Shocker Ricky Council IV build a career.
We also talk about working with Sixers coach Nick Nurse, Murry's appreciation for Fred VanVleet, and the veterans who helped him as a player. Then we reminisce about his days as a Shocker from 2008-12, highlighted by a turning point after a tough loss, facing Klay Thompson in the NIT and Joe Ragland's big night against UNLV.
Murry played two seasons in the NBA for the Knicks, Jazz and Wizards, in addition to playing internationally and in what is now the NBA G League.
He played at Wichita State from 2008-2012 and averaged 11.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists for his career. He earned All-MVC honors three times and was on the MVC's All-Defensive Team twice.
Murry, from Houston, was part of coach Gregg Marshall's first recruiting class and that group with Garrett Stutz, David Kyles, plus transfers Clevin Hannah and Gabe Blair, launched the Shockers into a great era. WSU played in the NIT in 2010 and won it in 2011. They returned to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team in 2012.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
