American Conference Offseason Breakdown
June 13, 2020 by Jon Rothstein
"College basketball is at a standstill.
The NCAA’s announcement that Aug. 3rd is the new early entry withdrawal date for the 2020 NBA Draft means that we’re going to have to wait seven more weeks until we have full clarity for the 20-21 college basketball season.
Not to worry, between now and then we will break down one conference each week from soup to nuts.
This week we’ll feature the American.
The rankings below will be altered immediately if there’s any personnel changes.
Check below for a comprehensive list of power rankings, projected lineups, and much more:
1. Houston
2. SMU
3. Memphis
4. South Florida
5. Cincinnati 6. Wichita State
Projected Starting 5:
G Alterique Gilbert
G Tyson Etienne
G Dexter Dennis
F Trey Wade
C Morris Udeze
Key Losses:
Jamarius Burton, Erik Stevenson, Jaime Echenique, Asbjorn Midtgaard, Grant Sherfield, Noah Fernandes
The Skinny:
A mass exodus saw three of the Shockers’ top six scorers from last season — Stevenson, Burton, and Sherfield — transfer during the spring. That doesn’t mean that Wichita State is closing up shop. If Dennis withdraws from the 2020 NBA Draft and returns to school, Gregg Marshall will still have enough reinforcements to make the Shockers competitive in 20-21.

Houston and Memphis should be pretty good. Landers Nolley will be a beast for Memphis and maybe the best player in the AAC. Agree 3rd, maybe 4th is where we land.
As of Mar. 2023, two U.S. states had COVID rates higher than 42 cases per 100 population. Maryland had the lowest rate of cases.
Kansas has more per capita than Texas
"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:
--------------------------------------- Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare: "We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said: "That's the definition of a stool sample."
I'm not going anywhere, just asked a question. You implying something or you gonna answer?
Sorry Dan . I took your post as an "question/answer" reply to the post just above it. Kinda like: Really?
You also didn't specify AAC, so I "assumed" MVC as well. Your question implies Marshall has (may have) always finished higher than picked (never at or below). Kind of hard to finish better than 1st. My pea brain would have fully understood the question "has he ever finished below".
Those stats are for the total number of cases in each state and have little bearing on this point in time, other than to say there have been more total cases in states where the virus arrived earlier.
The virus only recently got to Texas. Texas is one of the states seeing a rise in infections from day to day. Texas hasn't hit its peak yet.
