An abundance of time sensitive work kept me away during the game and this board mostly yesterday, and from what would have been a highly enjoyable watch party. I was hoping to stay away from the civil war that ShockerNet has become, but alas I am not that disciplined.

FWIW, and I admit that ain't much, I am putting very little stock in yesterday's outcome. I am extremely happy for the players and coaches, and as a fan I continue to look forward to post season play, hopefully the big dance.

But I don't think anything was fixed yesterday in the last 14 minutes. SMU's defense was atrocious as was their coaching. Even when we went zone (and I've watched the staff teach the zone and where people are supposed to be) we were out of place more often than not. Not intentionally, but our defense most of the last 15 minutes was predicated on hoping SMU would miss shots. Also, we're not going to beat anyone firing up 3s all the time. I agree it's all about matchups, and I'm not saying we're Alabama A&M, but we have struggles that haven't been fixed, and frankly aren't going to be fixed, at least not this season.

AND TO ME AT LEAST, that's ok. I find this team super easy to support. They aren't perfect, but from my interaction, this is a really good group of young men. Sure, there aren't any Freddys or Bakers out there, but again, to ME, so what? They're still pretty dang good, 22-7 on the season, I enjoy watching them play and like I said, my interaction tells me they are really polite, friendly and sharp young men. I believe they also, as a team, set a program record for GPA this year. Those are all good things, all things that, at least to me, are important and all things I can support.

What to take away? To remember, and RELISH in enjoying the ride. We get too caught up in where we're going to be, what our prospects are for finishing in conference, in FT. Worth, what tournament we're going to be in and how far we'll go. Whatever happens, in 5 weeks it's all going to be over, for every team. Will you have enjoyed the ride? I will have.

And that doesn't mean you can't be critical or talk about the future or anything else. And I'm NOT calling out anyone, but I'm going to use ShockerFever as an example. I like Fev, a lot. We've butted heads at times, and that's ok too. But sometimes I fear he's so concerned about being right next month that he's not enjoying today. And if I'm wrong, then I'm wrong. I KNOW he's a huge WSU fan. Almost everyone on this board is. We are fans in different ways and THAT'S ok.

Enjoy the ride.....maybe just a tiny bit more than you do today. And I'm talking to myself as much or more than I am talking to anyone else. I feel like too many of us as fans, myself included, have reached a point where winning is so expected that we hardly celebrate it. We worry a lot more about NOT winning than we actually enjoy the winning we do, and today that's a 3-1 ratio.

And yes, I know we have to win too, I get that. Just remember, the other guys want to win too.

    Anyway, GO SHOCKS! Beat Memphis!

Pretty sure that we are going to the postseason. That's good. I agree with Doc, the win is great, but.....the hole that we dug is unacceptable. Maybe the light switch has finally flipped on, maybe

This has to be up there with dumbest thread started in the history of Shockernet. Give me a break with this...

For the record, the three things I reposted from the game thread were...

BOBB saying “Go ahead and telling me how ****ing stupid I am for saying GM peaked in 2015.” I posted this with no comment because his words said it all. Taking a mid game victory lap at the expense of the team to score some points in the Shockernet debate that’s been going on this past week.

Singeril saying “But again, this is a Special team and we were to expect a special season. I’m not feeling anything special.” Few, if any people said anything close to that pre season. Most people expected to see improvement and to compete for an NCAA bid. Pretty much where we’re at. I guess a 24 point come back doesn’t qualify as special.

Aargh saying “Houston has 5 So's and 3 Fr, so I guess it is possible to win with a lot of Fr and So.” Which seemed like a reference to, if not mine specifically, the opinion that our youth has contributed to our struggles. Also, upon further research it became clear that his post didn’t paint an accurate picture of their roster as they have only one true freshman who plays significant minutes and 5 of 9 guys who average more than 10 MPG are Juniors or Seniors, and several of them RS.

Nothing else struck me as worth responding to. Is that so bad? I dunno.
Sure takes a big man to go back and call out people with legitimate posts at the time when said poster doesn’t put his neck ever on the line.

And for the record, you’re calling out more people and taking more time and effort in doing so than anybody did in the game thread during the game yesterday.

            Douche sounds about right.

Reminds me of Shocker Faithful vs. Unfiltered.

I didn’t get to post during the game but I’m honestly not sure how anyone had something positive to say down 24. If you did, good on you...just hard to believe anyone thought we were coming back.

You are upset that I made a reference to the opinion that our youth has contributed to our struggles?

                  I don't think that's an opinion, I believe that is a fact.

"...if not mine specifically" I don't pay enough attention to your posts to have a clue about anything you've said or not said about the youth on the team. You might want to scale back your opinion of your importance on SN. It seems like you just dug my quote out because you felt too important to be questioned about an opinion I was unaware you held.

I have one piece of advice for you, those who choose to be offended will always find success.

That’s why I said “if not mine specifically” because I’m not the only one who holds that opinion and I’m not delusional enough to assume you were referring specifically to me.

Also was not “upset”. I just saw someone misrepresenting/misunderstanding the facts and thought it deserved some clarification.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll try to keep that in mind.

I'm not sure how you could be upset, at people who were upset, at seeing the Shox perform terribly against a team throwing out the zone. It's been more than emotionally fatiguing to see a weakness that has gone unresolved for years. Just because the Shox made a once in a decade comeback for the record books doesn't mean you can go all Monday Morning Quarterback on those who were expressing their frustration at what appeared to be another struggling effort to overcome a huge weakness.

Does Shockernet have a chemistry problem?

Gone for a while and check in to see that we are still arguing about opinions. I thought we were one unified voice. Weird.
