I will totally admit that I threw in the towel down 24. I figured that this was Houston Part Deux and there were better ways to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon. My wife was even surprised when I turned it off. I was just about to take my son to a playground when I heard that things were improving. I think my mom texted me that it was at least improving but then I saw on my phone that it was a single-digit game at the under-8 timeout. I sheepishly told my wife that it was close again, and she surprised me by being very willing to turn it back on. Once the game was won, I took my son outside to run around but had to turn on the car radio to hear what Mike and Bob had to say.

My wife tried to turn this into a teachable moment. “What did we learn from this?” I can’t promise that I’ll never turn off a game in disgust again but I’ll at least think twice.

I am appalled. I tell you - appalled at the negativity of this post.

Hold on, I'm digging out my ticket stubs to every home game of the Cohen/Thompson/Smithson regimes....

            Hold on....

I'm getting my Tanners receipt for that time I showed up hoping to see the Shox AT Austin Peay circa 97 or 98. And no one else in the joint wanted to watch it.... I'm sure some of those people are probably the empty seat season-ticket holders now.

No need to call out anyone. This is a sports forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But now that i did get that out of the way. You are suppose to be a shocker fan, thick and thin correct. So throwing in the towel before the game is done is just crazy. Sure we are down by double digits. with a whole lot of minutes left. Now if it was down by 15-25 points with 4 minutes left then yes start talking all that crap you want. But there has been many games in the past that we have rallied to win some games. It does happen ppl. I really hate when ppl are so negative when there is a lot of time left to play and they start criticizing everything and being Debbie Downers.

I didn't post anything during the game (too upset), so thankfully I have no crow to eat.

HOWEVER, I find no reason to tar and feather anyone who voiced frustration or doubted our ability to come back and win down 24. We had a 0.2% chance of winning, for God's sakes. It was the biggest come back in program history and one of the largest in D1 ever.

The cool thing about this board is no matter our opinions on politics or anything else, we are all passionate and loyal Shockers fans, and we celebrate together and we commiserate together. I don't think we should be calling out anyone who posted negative stuff yesterday. The team came together yesterday and pulled each other up. Let's do that here too.

Hey, here's a thought. There were a lot f negative posts yesterday. The Shox made the greatest comeback in the history of the program. So, do negative posts lead to amazing comebacks? Hmmm!

I grew up with AC/X being mythological beings in my mind. In a seat in Levitt/Koch for most games from 1989 through 2009 when I moved out of Wichita. Watched every home game on the Ultra Low Def Shockervision or had to go to a local haunt that had individual TVs at the table AND a subscription to CBS Sports 7, or ESPN 8 "The Ocho", or buy a subscription to Drake Vision or whatever the f it was called to catch one of our untelevised games. Kept my season tickets for years after I moved.

So, to be lectured on whether I am a true fan of the program by some ***** kid, or some old man who's bought in to a cult of personality is more than a little galling.

As a Shocker fan am I entitled? Yes. I'm entitled to players busting their ass and playing unselfishly. I'm entitled to coaches doing their best to continuously evolve with the game and recruit players whose talent and athleticism is commensurate with the best programs in our conference and then improve them every year. When I don't see that I'm going to ***** about it.

we've won 2 hard fought games in a row. I have a feeling our guys are just now learning that they can actually win through adversity. At the beginning of the year, it was coming easy. Then reality hit them in the face and they lost belief in the themselves and each other, which resulted in either pouting or trying to carry the team by themselves. We're still taking baby steps but looks like the train is finally on the tracks. The game in Memphis now becomes the most important game on our schedule, let's keep these wheels rolling.

Aww c’mon Bobb. You’ve got to admit to getting up in years yourself and you’ve always been at least a little •••••y. J/K.

Guilty on both fronts. I hate getting older, but so far it beats the alternative.

I can certainly be a douche, no doubt about it.

If I have to choose between being a douche by calling out posters who have all the time in the world to craft and consider what they post from the comfort of their couch vs calling out players and coaches who must make decisions under pressure in the heat of a basketball game, I’ll choose the former.

For the record, the three things I reposted from the game thread were...

BOBB saying “Go ahead and telling me how ****ing stupid I am for saying GM peaked in 2015.” I posted this with no comment because his words said it all. Taking a mid game victory lap at the expense of the team to score some points in the Shockernet debate that’s been going on this past week.

Singeril saying “But again, this is a Special team and we were to expect a special season. I’m not feeling anything special.” Few, if any people said anything close to that pre season. Most people expected to see improvement and to compete for an NCAA bid. Pretty much where we’re at. I guess a 24 point come back doesn’t qualify as special.

Aargh saying “Houston has 5 So's and 3 Fr, so I guess it is possible to win with a lot of Fr and So.” Which seemed like a reference to, if not mine specifically, the opinion that our youth has contributed to our struggles. Also, upon further research it became clear that his post didn’t paint an accurate picture of their roster as they have only one true freshman who plays significant minutes and 5 of 9 guys who average more than 10 MPG are Juniors or Seniors, and several of them RS.

Nothing else struck me as worth responding to. Is that so bad? I dunno.
