Wichita State vs VCU Game Thread

What a difference a year makes. Once Ech went down in this game last year, that’s when the Rams really started to pull away last year. This year was a stark contrast with a healthy Ech and wet behind the ears freshman growing into veteran sophomores. Sherfield and Etienne are phenomenal. Still a lot to improve on but this team is really is getting back to Play Angry. The fact we were able to get this kind of win against a damn good VCU team is a great sign. Love this series and hope we keep it going. It’s been fun every time since that bracket buster game.

Great team win! MU, IPBC, JE and Wade did some nice work underneath. Guards were unselfish, nice prep work by the coaching staff. Merry Christmas everyone!

He said nothing earth shattering. Just said they're thinking about DD and will be there to fully support him. Didn't specify what exactly he's dealing with, just some personal things. I guess the most important tidbit, from a basketball perspective, is that he said he hopes DD will be back on the 26th (after winter break). So, DD will be missing all the games up to that point.

Basically sounded like DD asked to go home early for break. Dealing with some personal stuff. Not as scary sounding as maybe it initially came off.

Marshall stated he went home early and they hope to have DD back on the 26th. I interpreted it as December 26th, which would be the same day the rest of the team reports back from Christmas break, not semester break.

Cant say enough about Sherfield these last two game. Totally handled the VCU vaunted press with general ease. Looked like he had done it 1000 times.
The Etienne trey out of the corner was huge... that dude has major league onions when it comes to catch and shoot.
Wade is one of those guys who helps a team win games they might not win. Does a lot of dirty work inside the 'mans world' that never gets noticed. He is one tough sum batch.
Not noticed, but very important. Poor bears drive and finish along the baseline when there was a bit of doubt was a big deal. Nice footwork for a 6'9" big boi!
Props today to Burton. Handled the ball, grabbed 8 RB's and hit a big trey in the 1st half after their 4 team offensive rebounds!
JE played like a SR today... and his paint partner MO worked his tail off all game. Just needs to make some FT's!

In fact, only thing to pick on was FT%. They shoot a decent % from the line and this is a 20 point blow out.

Not sure the Shocks can play any harder but I am sure this is not their ceiling.

Normal free throw shooting and a better job of taking care of the ball late and this could easily have been a 20 point win.

Uh, if he's out a month, that'll be a long time without practice, workouts, and might be a big negative towards team chemistry. I was assuming he was talking about the 26th of December. He would've specifically said January 26th if that's what he meant by "the 26th".

Still missing a huge game at home on national tv is not a good sign. That's the stuff these players live for.

Free throws and a stagnant second half offensively were really the only negatives. That was huge gut check performance and response by the team after hearing of a departing teammate.

This team can definitely improve a lot still. 10-1 at this point is a huge overachievement. But are we really that surprised? And man are we so much better when we at least attempt to get the ball inside. We were abusing them down low today. That was a nice change from the perimeter only offense that sometimes crops up.

That's how you send yourself into Christmas break.
