The prouty matched up with how I came away feeling.

[Good]
Hall - If only a certain senior who is 7' tall had the same motor. He played his heart out and left it on the floor. Only thing some of the senior left on the floor was a bad attitude.
Cotton - has a bright future and had another good game.

[The Bad]
Murry - worst game of the year. You know you are trouble when he thinks he needs to take 3pt shots.
Ragland - Against good opponents he is average point guard and when this team really needed some one to lead this team and get them to do the right thing was AWOL
Stutz - fifi v2, except he doesn't have another year to become a man, he needs to grow some

Kyles - not a particular good game, but not bad, he was his normal inconsistent self
Smith - role player who struggles to get open and knocked down shots against good opponents
Williams - normal williams performance
Orupke - I just hope he finally gets it sometime

Isn't it odd how two of the players who have never experienced a Creighton game or a home conference game performed better than the seniors?

Why is it that the team prouty rating is higher than even the highest individual rating? Intuitively, I would expect that the team rating would be somehwhat of an average of the indiviual ratings weighted to towards the averages of the players who get the most minutes but it obviously doesn't work that way.

The NIT will continue to be our destiny until someone like Hall or a group of someone's stand up and say, Enough! The seniors will not do it or cannot do it, you can tell they are too nice, too soft and make too many poor decisions in the clutch. They learned from Durley that being mediocre is good enough. It is up to you to prove me wrong fellas. Don't bank on screwing around until March 5 and then pulling it all together in one miracle weekend, a la Indiana State - that's embarrassing. Please don't screw around until the NIT gives you a chance to repeat as champion. Last year was a failure and going back there is doubling down on failure.

Maybe we should take down the NIT Champion portion of the pregame video. The crowd was extremely loud during that moment in the pregame video and maybe the team/coaches think that's acceptable and our ultimate goal? They sure are starting to play like another quality NIT team.

Each Statistic's effect on Prouty Score

For purposes of this exercise, I have taken Joe Ragland's statistical line after 15 games:

This computed to a Prouty of .4794. Cahnging the win percentage to 1.0 did not alter the following results.

To determine the effect of each action, I restarted with Joe's original statistics. For the FGM, 3ptMade and FTM, I added the correct number of points to Joe's total points AND added "1" to the attempt category. For all other actions, I reset the original statistics and added "1" to the appropriate statistic category. Here are the results:



It appears there is significant bias to making 3-pt shot over making a 2-pt field goal, since the 3-pt is worth only 1.5 times the points, but is 1.79 better in the Prouty. Similarly, the "assist" is undervalued, in my opinion, because it always results in either a 2-pt or 3-pt field goal, it should have a value between .0019 and .0029. About 26% of WSU's field goals made are 3-point shots, so the appropriate influence should be around .0024.

The Shockers average about 1.2 points per possession, so using that, a rebound should be about .0011 instead of .0007. The same thought process would apply to steals. A similar negsative effect should apply for turnovers. Blocks are probably infrequent enogh to not merit changing.

Adding only an additional minute played to the 388 minutes Joe has played would reduce his Prouty score by .0002.

Having done this, I put adjustments in the formula to achieve the individual change values describes, and the resulting Prouty was .4801, up from .4794, a totally immaterial change.
