I’d take an 11 seed over a 7-10 seed straight up every day of the week. I’ve always been a believer in avoiding the 7-10 seeds (which is ironic, since we made the final 4 as a 9). IMO our goal in most years is to at least make the sweet 16, not just winning a game. While yes being a 7-10 seed gives us a better chance of winning our 1st game, our chances of winning against a 1-2 seed in the next round are pretty low. Doable obviously, but low. IMO there are generally 6-10 teams each year that possess not only the athletic ability, but the skill to make things very challenging for WSU. As an 11 seed you typically get a good, but not great 6 seed, then more than likely a 3 seed, which gives you a chance to avoid those 6-10 teams till the following rounds. I don’t think it’s a coincidence you see an 11 seed go far quite frequently. -
