Houston has clinched a Top 3 finish and seed. They can finish in a tie for the league championship, but they cannot be the 1 seed.

For WSU AACT seeding purposes, the important non-WSU game tonight is USF@Memphis. WSU needs 1 win, AND either 1 Memphis win or 1 Temple loss to guarantee a Top 2 seed.

Somebody should have yelled at me that this was unreadable on mobile. Woof.

I'm fairly certain a win tonight clinches top 2 for WSU. That would leave have the tie at 14-4 if we tied Houston, and since we split we would move through the conference standings top down comparing records until one team has an unmatchable advantage if they played the same number of games(http://sidearm.sites.s3.amazonaws.co...edia_Guide.pdf p24):
      We both split Cinci.
      Tulsa: 2-0 WSU, 1-0 Houston
Memphis: 1-0 WSU, 0-1 Houston - This decides it, but in case they aren't the next highest team the only other teams that could finish above them is UCF: 2-0 WSU, Houston 1-0.(Temple could tie Memphis, but Memphis holds the tie breaker with them.

If Temple catches Memphis, things get messy. To my understanding, you don't break that tie first. Instead you do record vs. the pool of tied teams, which would be the same for WSU/UH (WSU 2-1 vs UM+Temple, UH 2-1 vs UM+Temple), and likely gets us on down the standings to SMU, where WSU would lose.

I could be wrong, and even if I'm right, a WSU win tonight locks WSU into a top 2 finish, and a VERY high likelihood of top 2 seed.

Hmmm looks like you are right, that gets goofy. I suppose unlikely to matter because Memphis isn't going to lose to USF and ECU to finish the year I imagine.

If we lose and Houston wins, who wins the tiebreak?

If Memphis had not completely blown it last night we would know, but now there is more of a question. In the event of a WSU/UH tie for 2nd, Houston needs a Memphis loss AND and Temple win to get the 2 seed. Sunday has Cincy@WSU, UH@UConn, ECU@Memphis and Temple@Tulsa

Could get more complicated as UCF could end up tied with Memphis and Temple.

Neither WSU or Houston lost to UCF, so I don't think UCF entering the equation will have any bearing.

Who would hold the tiebreaker between us and UH for 2nd?

Bringing this out into a separate post.

While that is true, it does change the tie breakers

If just Memphis and Temple ties, Memphis wins that tie breaker because they won that game head to head. In that case, Memphis become our tiebreaker with Houston (We beat them, UH lost to them) = We get the 2 seed

If Memphis/Temple/Houston all tie, it becomes record versus that group.
        UCF 3-1
        Temple 1-2
        Memphis 1-2

So UCF becomes void because they didn't beat either UH or WSU

But I believe Temple wins the next tie-breaker on that one so they get the next spot and become the tie-breaker for WSU/UH and UH wins that one.

So the ONLY scenario where UH gets the 2 that I can come up with is
        Cincy Beats WSU
        ECU Beats Memphis
        UCF Beats Tulane
        Temple beats Tulsa.

I still don't believe UCF enters into the equation. You don't break ties before breaking other ties. So it would be record against the group of tied teams regardless of how many teams are in the group. Because Houston and WSU both swept UCF, adding or subtracting them from the group doesn't matter.

"When comparing records against a single team or collective tied teams (before ties are broken)," http://sidearm.sites.s3.amazonaws.co...edia_Guide.pdf

I still believe the only way for UH to get the 2 seed is:
          UH Win
          WSU Loss
          Temple Win
          Memphis Loss

This would leave WSU/UH tied at 14-4. Because Temple cannot pass Memphis, they aren't actually directly relevant. The important part is them not joining a group including Memphis and canceling out the advantage WSU has over Houston against Memphis. If that happens, it would continue down the standings and we would lose the tiebreaker at SMU.

New league, same ol' song and dance. People pay to see the Shockers.

Road attendance (factoring in the WSU sellout Sunday):
          WSU: 7903
          Cincy: 6941

I can easily understand those numbers with all the hype the AAC provided touting another top 25 team coming into the league and all the promos the athletic departments came up with in their meet and greet, dog and pony shows.

We'll see if next year's edition of Shockers get close to those numbers.

If the schedule was split into east/west divisions:

                2 WSU
                3 Houston
                4 Tulsa
                5 Memphis
                9 SMU
                10 Tulane

                (average 5.5)

                vs

                1 Cinci
                6 UCF
                7 Temple
                8 UConn
                11 ECU
                12 USF
