You guys looking for a solution You are looking way to deeply. The problem is not necessarily the players nor the coaches so much, but the fans. Yes gene is a "God" by everyone who follows college baseball but his own team. But the fans for wichita state are absolutly horrible. I was at the Kansas State game where there was a record 7,800+ fans to start the game. But by the 8th inning there couldn't've been more than 2,000. So what if we were down, there is always a possibility of a comeback. But these fans have absolutely no faith in this team once they get down.

Uh, have you seen this team this year?

We should be lucky to have an attendance of that magnitude to begin with. Seriously, the biggest regular season game attendance mark in our team's HISTORY with back-to-back seasons like these? And you're effing calling out the fans?

Something that has really bothered me for the last several years now is GS's penchant for berating his team to the local media. Every so often he will man up and call him or his assistants out, but by and large, all you ever hear from him is "these guys have talent, but they are hard-headed", or "they don't retain information". True or not, I feel it is very unprofessional to continually chastise your team in public. Perhaps his own game is starting to slip, and he needs to come to grips with reality?

Gene does have a knack for being hard on the team. But when our team/program was sustaining itself and getting W's, it was fine and nobody batted an eyelash (including me).

He needs to realize that giving himself so much credit in times of good also means he needs to acknowledge the responsibility in times of bad as well.

I've been criticized and even stalked for being overoptimistic, but there's almost no realistic likelihood the Shocks can build a good enough RPI or resume at this point to get serious at-large consideration. And winning the Valley isn't going to impress anyone even if they bounce back to do it.

This was a disappointing loss to a mediocre team at best, but WSU's RPI isn't really a concern at this point anyway; it's all about winning the Valley tournament now. Too bad -- it didn't look at the beginning of the year as if it would be that way, but there have been far more disappointments than pleasant surprises this season, and it's almost impossible for enough good things to happen now to turn that around.

So just win the Valley or finish a solid (though disappointing) second, then win the tournament to move on, and hope the offense gains consistency, the defense tightens up, Kelley regains his form, Lowell recovers, Smith continues to pitch reasonably well. and a couple of guys from the pen start being dependable.

That's only seven good things to happen -- surely that isn't too much to ask, is it?

Actually if the Shockers won all of their remaining 16 games AND won the Valley regular season title, there is no doubt in my mind that we would receive strong at large consideration.

How many can we lose and still get considered? I don't know, but it isn't very many. And as SB pointed out we have to win the Valley regular season title to have any hope at all for an at large bid.

Seriously, why counter with something that does not have an ounce of a chance of happening?

Yeah.. and technically Arkansas-Pine Bluff can win the College World Series too.

Obviously 16-0 would be extremely difficult to acheive but if we get some help from some of our opponents we could go maybe 12-4 and still get strong at large consideration. (If we end up with 4 rpi top 50 wins, Indy St. ,Ill. St and Okie St. move into the top 100, and SJSU moves into the top 200 and we win the regular season title 12-4 might be enough- see one of my previous posts).

This team certainly has the potential to really finish strong. They haven't had a long winning streak since early in the season, but repeating that kind of performance could definitely put them into the at-large discussion.

I will go out on a limb and say that if the Shox win the remaining 16 regular season games they will get an at-large bid (41-15, with RPI in mid-40's).
