    RPI

RPI? At large? Surely you jest, guys.

I've been criticized and even stalked for being overoptimistic, but there's almost no realistic likelihood the Shocks can build a good enough RPI or resume at this point to get serious at-large consideration. And winning the Valley isn't going to impress anyone even if they bounce back to do it.

This was a disappointing loss to a mediocre team at best, but WSU's RPI isn't really a concern at this point anyway; it's all about winning the Valley tournament now. Too bad -- it didn't look at the beginning of the year as if it would be that way, but there have been far more disappointments than pleasant surprises this season, and it's almost impossible for enough good things to happen now to turn that around.

So just win the Valley or finish a solid (though disappointing) second, then win the tournament to move on, and hope the offense gains consistency, the defense tightens up, Kelley regains his form, Lowell recovers, Smith continues to pitch reasonably well. and a couple of guys from the pen start being dependable.

That's only seven good things to happen -- surely that isn't too much to ask, is it?

Something that has really bothered me for the last several years now is GS's penchant for berating his team to the local media. Every so often he will man up and call him or his assistants out, but by and large, all you ever hear from him is "these guys have talent, but they are hard-headed", or "they don't retain information". True or not, I feel it is very unprofessional to continually chastise your team in public. Perhaps his own game is starting to slip, and he needs to come to grips with reality?

Actually if the Shockers won all of their remaining 16 games AND won the Valley regular season title, there is no doubt in my mind that we would receive strong at large consideration.

How many can we lose and still get considered? I don't know, but it isn't very many. And as SB pointed out we have to win the Valley regular season title to have any hope at all for an at large bid.

Actually he used to be much harder on his teams in the media.

He really has softened his tone with the media over the last few years.

I will go out on a limb and say that if the Shox win the remaining 16 regular season games they will get an at-large bid (41-15, with RPI in mid-40's).

As far as their minimum record needed I will point you to Boyd's World minimum needs RPI report.

Guess we won't be meeting this year...

I was looking forward to a rematch with Florida State.

FSU just came off a three game series with Miami this weekend...best series I have watched. All three games decided by one run...the last two by FSU with walk offs in the 9th.

Both of our clubs have pitching holes...I thought that it would be a good match up. But winning all 16 games would be a tough hoop to jump through..It looks like the Shocks will have to win the Valley.

You guys looking for a solution You are looking way to deeply. The problem is not necessarily the players nor the coaches so much, but the fans. Yes gene is a "God" by everyone who follows college baseball but his own team. But the fans for wichita state are absolutly horrible. I was at the Kansas State game where there was a record 7,800+ fans to start the game. But by the 8th inning there couldn't've been more than 2,000. So what if we were down, there is always a possibility of a comeback. But these fans have absolutely no faith in this team once they get down.

Yeah you're right. The people in the stands are the reasons why the infielders look like Spanish Matadors in the field.

I am not sure it would necessarily require us to go 16-0 to get an at large bid but we would certanily have to go 14-2 or something like that to get a strong at large consideration.

Part of it depends on how well our opponents finish. We have wins over #54 So. Alabama and #57 Washington and #60 Long Beach. Also we play #53 Ku tomorrow. If we beat Ku and those other 3 teams manage to get into the rpi top 50, we all of a sudden have 4 rpi top 50 wins.

We already have several wins over rpi top 100 teams, but a few more wouldn't hurt (8-5 right now). So if Illinois St (rpi #110), Indy St. (rpi #116) or Okie St. (rpi #105) could improve enough to move into the top 100 that would really help.

Sunday's loss to San Jose St. really hurt. It was our first Bad loss of the season (our first loss to a sub rpi #200 team). Last I checked they were #209 in the rpi, so it would also help if they could get into the top 199 and erase that bad loss.

Having said all of that, it still depends on our team going on a long winning streak which they haven't done since early in the season.

I really believe they can do it. The last 16 games as a group really aren't any tougher than the first 10.

It's just up to them to do it. We know they are capable of doing it, we saw them do it to start the season. I would really like to see them finish the season the same way. :wsu_posters:

Funny I thought I had no faith in them when thier up!

When they are down I have faith they will stay down.

I would have to agree. Pathetic performance by the fans.

                            LOL.

Dangs fans, make the boys in black and gold underachieve (according to Gene words).

Dang fans are making other teams coach and recruit better (according to Gene words).

Dang fans are making the boys play mediocre defense.

Dangs fans are making the boys strike out with bases loaded.

Dang fans making the bullpen come out and throw 4 balls in a row on the first hitter.

Everbody knows the fans in '89 were so much better.

Seriously, why counter with something that does not have an ounce of a chance of happening?

Why say meaningless stuff like this?

Yeah.. and technically Arkansas-Pine Bluff can win the College World Series too.
