Christ, crap like this is why I had been avoiding this site. I came back to stay on top of the crazy schedule this game was on but it just isn't worth wading through this stupidity.
I hear you Rose... I've been debating a Shockernet retirement. :(

How are we abusing our pitchers?

You'll have to ask tru2thaduce and tripleshock... they claim to know more than our 30 year coaches.

          • Sorry to insult your intellegence.Have you ever pitched after an hour plus rain delay?I haven't because no coach I ever had would allow it.I pitched 2 years of JC ball 128 innings as a flex pitcher. Not to mention countless innings in summer ball.Never did I have a coach let me come back after a delay that long. One of the many things ive always respected about the WSU staff is that they usually didn't do things like this. This is not ordinary from a shocker standpoint.JMO.Isn't that what these boards are for?

Not sure if you follow WSU baseball much but this may be the first instance a person could ever bring up of us not being OVERLY cautious with a pitcher. I usually harp on our coaches for treating them with kid gloves.

That being said, there must have been some reason for Capra to continue on. Even if you say we are in desperation mode I think the 9-2 lead would have been enough to go to the pen. Maybe Capra stayed loose, but I will agree that I was SHOCKED he didn't come out.

                    • I am assuming Bret Bascue has earned some additional PT in place of Mitch Caster for the time being.

I wasn't there to watch, but Capra could have been throwing in the indoor facility and staying loose, just like outr guys do when we have 9-run 45-minute innings; they are up 2 or 3 times tossing along the first base line, staying warm. If he was taking those precautions, do you still believe it is totally stupid??????

A physician called into a radio show and said:

                        • You think Evansville has an indoor facility? And especially one that the opponents can use?

According to Bruce Heartl they did not even have indoor bathrooms.

                            • 1) Capra used to be a reliever and was accustomed to getting up and down. Some guys can and some can't - he obviously can.

                              2) The bulk of his pitches came after the delay. Had that been reversed, he wouldn't have returned.

                              3) I've seen guys throw in both games of a DH before - even for the Shocks. That's a really long break.

Nothing at all even remotely disturbing about his returning after the delay.

                              • FYI, there was a gymnasium type building next door, with hitting nets, and that's where they spent most of their time.
