I have no problem with WSU telling Gene that his time had come but I did not like the way the transition was handled. However, I have no idea if the well between Gene and the athletic administration (and if it was whose fault that was) was so poisoned that they simply would not or could not work out a transition in an amicable fashion that would have let Gene have input into selecting his successor with the administration having the final say. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
The real problem I have at this point is the contract they gave HCTB that would put WSU in an unenviable financial position if he didn't work out and it appears that is the case. I would not have given that contract to anyone until they had proven the could do the job at Wichita State adequately and that includes Kevin Hooper or Mark Standiford.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 5, 2016, 02:10 PM.

So HCTB will be the WSU baseball coach for AT LEAST 2 more years after this regardless of our record especially if Boatright had a lot of input in hiring him. Nobody is going to admit a $1.34 million failure and keep their job.
I wonder if HCTB will have to make a change at some point and will let Kemnitz go to try and save face? Even if we can't fire HCTB the AD should mandate that he hire Hooper at the end of this season!

I liked the way someone on the Memphis message board said it when talking about Pastner: we are paying the $1.34 million over the next 4 years no matter what happens, whether that be keeping or firing Butler. Do we want to spend an extra $300-400k on top of that each year to save the program? I say yes.
