I found this to be an interesting tidbit:

...the Braves' selection of Navy right-hander Stephen Moore with the 300th overall pick. That made Moore the earliest player in Draft history to be taken out of Navy -- and the first player taken from Navy since Alex Azor and Preston Gainey were selected one round apart in 2012. It adds to an already historic season for the Naval Academy, as fellow alumni Mitch Harris(Cardinals) and Oliver Drake(Orioles) each debuted in the Majors earlier this season, becoming the first Navy grads to play in the big leagues since 1921.

Rounds 11 through 40 tomorrow beginning at 11:00 CDT.
Not very Shocking, considering the talent on the field for the Shockers this year.

Perhaps the only mild surprise was that Dayton Dugas, who was ranked #142 coming in was taken in the Top 10 rounds. OTOH, he may have been hoist on his own petard after his comments about being 120% sure he would go to college if not picked in the first 3 rounds and based on his scouting report that was unlikely to happen and probably raised some serious doubt about his signability.

We will probably see some Shocker players and recruits drafted tomorrow. Whether or not any of them will be drafted high enough to entice them to sign remains to be seen.

            I saw these stats today:

            2015 MLB Opening Day Rosters:

            59% - 4 year College Baseball Players
            30% - High School Players
            10% - 2 year College Players

does not include international free agents.

It would be interesting to see how those splits compare with the splits of players drafted.

This Grantland article has a lot of relevant and interesting information, including a chart of the historic percentage of high schoolers drafted.

The question begs to be asked.

Is it it a good thing or a bad thing that the existing players and recruits will show up next year considering the quality and the results of this years team?

Dayton Dugas had tweeted yesterday before the second day of draft started that after talking with teams that he had decided he was going to Wichita State. Suellentrop had a blurb the other day that he wAs looking for a certain amount or he wouldn't sign. Sounds like teams didn't want to get to his number.

Nice, Looking forward to the Louisiana duo of Dugas, and Lurnert over the next three years. Lurnert was the La. all- star MVP this year.

I think it's kunert not lurnet, my bad

That is the other side of the sword I suppose. OTOH, the team did play pretty well down the stretch going 12-7 against good competition and with all 7 losses against two teams that had a combined 6 pitchers and 1 position player drafted in the top 10 rounds.

It's not like we had no good players on last year's team so if the right guys come back that would be a good thing IMHO. But there are only 10 rounds in the books and still a good chance we will lose a couple of those right guys.

The other downside if very few get drafted/sign is right now we have 48 on the roster for next year. 13 need to be trimmed one way or another... I know it has been said here before, but the draft trims from the top where the cuts normally come from the bottom so the draft is probably the worst way to trim your roster.

I think we should probably get used to the 50-man open tryouts every year. Previously, we were one of the few major programs that didn't do this. It was nice. Gene gets some deserved crap, but he was certainly a loyal cuss. I guess going forward we will not be a major program AND we will have tryouts every year.

Nothing new there. The draft has always harvested the cream of the crop both from the existing roster and from the incoming recruits. If you have no one drafted you are guilty of poor recruiting and if you have too many drafted you get hurt on the field. It really is a unique and unenviable aspect of being a College Baseball coach.
