Interesting that Sam Hilliard is now going to be playing summer ball in the Cape Cod League. Perhaps a sign he may not go pro?

More likely he is doing it to get looked at. If he plays well it should help him get signed if he gets drafted low for more money. What team is he playing for?

According to Sullentrop's Shocker Blog today (mainly talking basketball but had some baseball notes at the bottom), he is playing for Orleans (Mass) in the Cape Cod League.

Interesting take from blast-from-the-past draftee Kendall Bergdall from the Enid News.

He chose to sign with the Mariners for a $225,000 bonus and $90,000 additional for college, bypassing Wichita State, where he had signed a letter of intent. He was released in 2005 while pitching for Class A Wisconsin of the Midwest League. He had a career 7-8 record with a 107 strikeouts in 132 innings and a 5.90 ERA.

“It was one of those deals that I wasn’t mentally at my best,’’ Bergdall said. “If I had gone to college, I would have been a whole lot more mentally ready and stable for that kind of lifestyle.’’

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Interesting start to the draft with three consecutive shortstops picked. The first pitcher to go was Shocker opponent UCSB's Dillon Tate who left the game vs the Shockers in Wichita on March 13th with a 2-1 lead after 8 innings in which he only allowed 4 hits. Unfortunately for Dillon on that day the Shocks rallied for 2 runs in the 9th to win. Perhaps the highlight of the early season for the Shocks.

First Shocker or future Shocker to get picked will most likely be High School OF Dayton Dugas out of Louisiana. He is ranked as the #142 best player in the draft.

I don't expect any Shocker players or recruits to be among the 75 players picked tonight.

I was surprised he lasted that long

                      From the Omaha World-Herald...

Mitch McIntyre, 6-3, 185, RHP: A Wichita St. transfer, McIntyre has a fastball that can touch 88-92 mph, but his best tools are his offspeed pitches: a sharp curveball to go with a good changeup.
I had to look him up. A Wichita product. He's now at Iowa Western in Council Bluffs.

Rounds 3 to 10 beginning at Noon CDT today. No Shockers or Shocker recruits picked on Day 1 as expected. A good possibility that Shocker recruit Dayton Dugas will go today.

The real action for Shocker fans most like will be during the final 30 rounds tomorrow.

MSU CF Tate Matheny taken by Boston in Round 4 at #111. A little surprised to see him go before LHP Matt Hall.
