Happened for a few years and from different WSU programs?
Who is in charge of ensuring complete fiduciary responsibility and compliance?

The very one item in which I supported and applauded a certain athletic department individual, now seems to be an additional ***** in his/her armour.
I didn't like the way Gene was let go. There were many different ways to handle it, but unfortunately, Gene's nose was rubbed in it which is bound to torque off his supporters.
Looks like it has come full circle - unfortunately.

Now is where we find out what ADES is really made of and whether he can mitigate and control the potential damage.

I think it will be firmly in control of those that do the internal investigation and then the ncaa when they do theirs. I don't think anyone controls what happens from here except the boys in Indy.

How can the baseball team possibly have an off-sight team-rebuilding hunting experience without hunting gear? Clearly that gear was critical to the psychological aspect of our team training; which was much needed due to the unexpected termination of their legendary baseball coach.

I was just fun'n, but, yes. If Rathbun throws it out there, it is open to discussion.

What he threw out there, was she was employed by the baseball office. Then went on to say that other departments made purchases through her too - not sure if those are facts, or if he is just throwing it out there.

Also, did NOT say purchases made by other departments were being questioned (if in fact they exist). Just some made by a handful of baseball players. It may end up being a case where they just need to pay for the amounts discounted. Of course, this is all speculation.

Just stating it doesn't make it so. Sometimes it is just a lawyer "throwing it out there."

You know what? If the NCAA dares to jeopardize our athletes during their team training on the hunting expedition by denying them access to "single source", "team approved" safety hunting equipment, I say we sue 'em. In fact the state of Kansas should sue them too, since WSU is self insured through the state, as they are clearly increasing the risk of our players' health. In fact they may even be putting their lives at risk if that equipment is the approved hunter orange.

Besides, are they going to punish Baylor's basketball team for wearing that gawd awful hunting equipment a few games back? No way! BCS bias in full E.F.F.E.C.T.!! (A smooth operater operating correctly [name that tune])

No, he never made that statement by itself, he included it with WSU using her as a scapegoat. We were responding to shox1989's opinion of things. If Rathbun doesn't throw it out there, there is no reason for anyone, including the media, to discuss it. Rathbun laid the blame squarely on Gene and the athletic department for lack of control. Shox1989 was laying it on the athletic department in just trying to get rid of her.

Not sure how to take your jocularity regarding this incident. Hopefully, I'm being overly concerned.

I think it comes down to "how much influence do you have over the situation?".

If your answer, like mine, is "I can't do anything about it, I'm just an alumnus of WSU that shows up at sporting events throughout the year" -- well then I think you are being overly concerned. Because you can't do crap about it. It's got a life of its own and no matter how worried you are, it isn't going to help anything. Just hope for the best and move on.

However if your answer is more along the lines of "well I work for the Athletic Department and this is really hitting the fan", then you should be really concerned.

So on a scale of 1 = I'm just an alumnus and fan to 10 = I'm Eric Sexton, where do you rank?

You can carry this over to things like being on a plane with an engine that's just gone out. Are you the pilot? Well then I bet your butt's puckered tighter than Gregg Marshall's hands wrapped around a Final Four trophy. And if you are just a passenger? Well I bet you are completely comfortable and relaxed kno --- wait, I guess this doesn't work.

Maybe I should be concerned about this investigation too. But I'm just not, for some reason. I guess I would be concerned if it weren't self-initiated and about a secretary and discounts.

I do know that I don't know a single thing about Shelley but I feel bad for her. I doubt she knew she was doing anything wrong.

If Butler and his (non-Kemnitz) staff didn't know about this (as presumably they didn't inasmuch as they were new), and then they found out, self-reporting was simply a matter of self-defense to try to mitigate any penalties that might be imposed, because they're the ones who'll be adversely affected. As always, the simplest explanation is usually the best --and in any case, it's certainly the place to start.

I'll be curious how it all works out for Brent -- did he not know either (and if not, how did he accomplish that)?

For over 20 years, Shelly has been more than a secretary for the baseball office. She travels with the team, takes care of all the "little" details, has acted as a defacto "mom" to the players over the years and has been someone who players over the years can trust. Shelly is a huge link to the past 20 years of the program. She has been, and continues to be activeand a part of these players lives, even after they leave WSU. She has been someone they could talk to, when maybe they didn't want to, or couldn't talk to Gene, Brent or JT.
While Brent obviously is still on staff, and has been here from the beginning basically, he still is the pitching coach. He will have a closer relationship with the pitchers and catchers who have come through here....or I assume more so than with position players who he did not work with on a daily basis.
Shelly is a huge link to the past of the program and the last 20 years. If she is fired, I feel it will be a huge loss, and hope it does not serve to maybe further alienate former players. You always want to have a common link to the past of the program. I think Shelly is more of that link than most people realize. While it's exciting to have new blood and a new direction, it's important to always have ties to the past, especially when the past was successful. Alumni, and former players always want to feel welcome when they come back. All new faces and traditions don't always promote that.
If anything. I blame the compliance dept at WSU for not spending more time explaining thru meetings or training with employees what should be looked at closer or ran thru the compliance offices.
