Originally posted by MizzouShockerFan View PostFor over 20 years, Shelly has been more than a secretary for the baseball office. She travels with the team, takes care of all the "little" details, has acted as a defacto "mom" to the players over the years and has been someone who players over the years can trust. Shelly is a huge link to the past 20 years of the program. She has been, and continues to be activeand a part of these players lives, even after they leave WSU. She has been someone they could talk to, when maybe they didn't want to, or couldn't talk to Gene, Brent or JT.
While Brent obviously is still on staff, and has been here from the beginning basically, he still is the pitching coach. He will have a closer relationship with the pitchers and catchers who have come through here....or I assume more so than with position players who he did not work with on a daily basis.
Shelly is a huge link to the past of the program and the last 20 years. If she is fired, I feel it will be a huge loss, and hope it does not serve to maybe further alienate former players. You always want to have a common link to the past of the program. I think Shelly is more of that link than most people realize. While it's exciting to have new blood and a new direction, it's important to always have ties to the past, especially when the past was successful. Alumni, and former players always want to feel welcome when they come back. All new faces and traditions don't always promote that.
If anything. I blame the compliance dept at WSU for not spending more time explaining thru meetings or training with employees what should be looked at closer or ran thru the compliance offices.Originally posted by SB Shock View PostNew secretary who can play mom can always be hired. Hopefully one that won't run a side business at the expense of the Athletic department. Though, I think u are right - Sexton has to take some blame for allowing the baseball program to go "rogue". Lets just hope that Butler doesn't find any other skeletons out there.
Gene's program ran "rogue" long before Sexton and in no way do I believe Shelley was running a side business.
So, once our previous successful and high profile AD moved on and with the President of the university that welcomed Gene back and hired an inexperienced Sexton as AD, your going to throw this at Sexton's administration. I think we observed just how much turmoil there was among some fans and boosters over Gene's dismissal and how well (not) Gene took it. Sure, Sexton was in great position to take the Legend on a few years ago about how to run his program.
We also know Gene was going to run his ship the way he wanted. He wanted nothing to do with the athletic department telling him what to do. Sorry, but this all starts with Gene. He had to know what she was doing. Even if it was all done above board until recently, Gene was the one who should have set down the rules, explained them very carefully, and insisted that any possible deviation be checked with him first.

If your answer, like mine, is "I can't do anything about it, I'm just an alumnus of WSU that shows up at sporting events throughout the year" -- well then I think you are being overly concerned. Because you can't do crap about it. It's got a life of its own and no matter how worried you are, it isn't going to help anything. Just hope for the best and move on.
However if your answer is more along the lines of "well I work for the Athletic Department and this is really hitting the fan", then you should be really concerned.
So on a scale of 1 = I'm just an alumnus and fan to 10 = I'm Eric Sexton, where do you rank?
You can carry this over to things like being on a plane with an engine that's just gone out. Are you the pilot? Well then I bet your butt's puckered tighter than Gregg Marshall's hands wrapped around a Final Four trophy. And if you are just a passenger? Well I bet you are completely comfortable and relaxed kno --- wait, I guess this doesn't work.
Maybe I should be concerned about this investigation too. But I'm just not, for some reason. I guess I would be concerned if it weren't self-initiated and about a secretary and discounts.
I do know that I don't know a single thing about Shelley but I feel bad for her. I doubt she knew she was doing anything wrong.

If its a multi engine aircraft on takeoff it gets real tight because of the assumed max weight at takeoff that most planes are at and the need to attain altitude. If it is a single engine aircraft and you lose the engine then multiply all of the other pucker factors by 1000. All aircraft have a certain glide ratio and if you have enough altitude you have options. Those options dwindle the closer to terra firma you get. And if you have an ejection seat its best to make the decision to leave the aircraft at an optimum time.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

He would have fired her at the same time but couldn't because she is a classified state employee. He has been looking for some reason to fire her since June, I think they found it. This practice has been going on for years and would have probably continued to go on unnoticed except for the fact that they were looking for something so they could fire Shelley. That was my point.

I'll be curious how it all works out for Brent -- did he not know either (and if not, how did he accomplish that)?"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

Has anyone on this forum considered how much the administration is covering up?
- How anything like this selling UA at 50% off was unknown to the current and past coaches? Players would come into the office to purchase their clothing right in the office in front of the coaches at admin’s desk. The coaches knew what was going on and now are playing stupid. Pitching coach is a member of both staffs, he definitely knew what was going on.
- If selling UA went on for 3 years and only baseball admin was doing this, then the WSU Athletics Compliance Officer, and his reports should all be fired. Talk about being incompetent.
- Players looking at many games suspensions. And no penalties for the AD, Ass AD, Compliance Officer and staff, or baseball staffs. Administration is just covering their asses. Everybody should feel the pain. Lets see what admins lawyer lays on the Administration. The University is pinning their incompetence on the players so they don’t get fired. Leave players alone. Leave Shelley alone too.
Oh yeah, buying clothing on sale is not a crime.

Yeah they have done a great job of covering this up. Lets see if I wanted to cover this up real well I would make an announcement to the local media that we are launching an internal investigation and not only that but we are hiring a non Wichita law firm to do an independent investigation. Lets see next lets remove the person that may or may not have been complicit in these acts and have her hire a lawyer who then starts crying foul for his client which is another good way to keep things on the QT. Buying clothing on sale is not a crime per se but it is a violation of ncaa rules.
