According to KAKE, and I paraphrase, current players received discounts on Under Armor clothing, facilitated by a baseball program employee and discovered around the time of the coaching change.

I doubt Gene knows anything about this.

Not an excuse - Kemnitz was in charge of the day to day operation between when Stephenson was fired and Butler was hired. Regardless of whether Stephenson knew or not, it happened on his watch and if sanctions come down on the program this will tarnish his legacy.

Wow this whole thing may just be the thing that gives WSU the cause needed to fire Shelley (she is a classified state employee so they couldn't just fire her like they did Gene, JT and Shane- they have to have cause).

She has been the Secretary for the Baseball office since about 1994. There were many rumors floating around when Gene, JT and Shane were fired that Shelley would be let go too. But I don't think they could fire her as easily as the others because she is a classified state employee, which means they have to have cause to fire her. It sounds like this incident may be the cause they were looking for.

Shelley is in charge of such things as the Battery Club, the Golden Girls, the baseball camps and the Alumni Golf tournament and runs the day to day operations of the office.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire and not sure of her exact influence on the program, but she has been there for a long time and I'd be sad to see her go.

From past history with some players and parents of players one gripe they had was how hard it was to get apparel and stuff. For instance...some players were hesitant to ask for a replacement batting glove because Gene would grill them about what happened to it. Don't know enough about Shelly and apparel but sure they will look into seeing who knew what.

I've never had occasion to meet Shelly, so I wouldn't know her from the next yahoo walking down the street, but I have always had the impression she was well thought of by those with closer connections to the program than I.
