Gene signed plenty of good players even in his later years. The problem was he couldn't keep them from signing with the teams that drafted them. We shall see how Butler does as several of his recruits will be drafted.

After thinking long and hard about my decision to play football or baseball, I have decided to sign with WSU baseball in the coming days
WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State has signed 16 baseball players in the early signing period, Head Coach Todd Butler announced on Nov. 18.
Not sure how many will survive the MLB draft. We have the #1 ranked player in Kansas, #1 ranked player in Nebraska, #1 Catcher in Kansas, #1 LHP in Kansas, #3 RHP in Kansas, #2 2B in Kansas #1 OF in Louisiana, #1 3B from Louisiana, #1 3B from Oklahoma, #8 LHP from Texas, #26 RHP from Texas, #4 RHP from Colorado, #6 RHP in Missouri among the high schoolers signed.
Sounds line one helluva class if most of them survive the MLB draft. Check out the sizes also. Other than the 5-7 Lenni Kunnert (#1 3B from Louisisiana) the rest are 6' or better with 9 of those 6'3" to 6'5".
This has to put a smile on your face if you are a Shocker baseball fan. :good:

The market for RHP's in Texas must really be depressed. $26?
Corrected. At least someone read the post. I am surprised there has not been more comment on this signing class. Perhaps I was overly impressed with it. Or maybe Shocker fans are simply taking a wait and see attitude which is probably wise.

No I think most baseball fans are impressed with the class we have now and the class that has signed. The difference is that our basketball team doesn't suck and we actually have something to keep our attention until baseball starts. At this point of the season most of us were already counting the days until the first baseball game.

Been 5 years and change since the Basketball team was run-of-the-mill. Hopefully, the baseball team will live up to the hype surrounding the 1st two recruiting classes under HCTB and start to get back to an elite level in the not to distant future.
