Hey Shocker Fans, I'm new to this forum even though I have been a long time Shocker Baseball fan. I find this forum very informational and intriguing and finally have decided to add something to this post. I love how there are so many quality recruits committed to come next year to find their place with Shocker Baseball. I do however have a wait and see attitude as I read, hear and watch games this season. This year's recruiting class was ranked very high in the country of recruits with both high school and junior college players. My question is with the current coaching style we have now (not talking at all about the coaching style we have had in the past....just looking at today and the players and coaches we have right now), are the players we have right now, the "top recruiting class" of players we have right now able to grow to their full potential and play together as a unit, (a brotherhood) to WIN ball games under HCTB style of coaching? I am not convinced the win/loss record is solely due to the talent of our players but may be in fact the inability to play under the current coaching staff and the style for which they choose to coach these boys. I have read so much about our lack of pitching, injuries etc. I have yet to read anyone ask the question, what style of coaching does our current coaching staff use to motivate and instill unity, pride, mental toughness and baseball smarts? Is HCTB a "Player's Coach", a "Teaching Coach", a "Positive Reinforcer" or a "Negative Reinforcer", Is he a "Name Calling Coach", or a "Atta Boy Coach" ? Does he coach all players the same, or does he understand that not every player can be taught or coached the same, does he get to really know the players? Who they are, what their interests are? Does he really know his players as the unique, funny, smart, vibrant young men they are? Or does he pass by them without a "Hello or simple conversation?" I don't have the answers to these questions, I do know, these young men are talented in their craft or they would not be a WSU Shocker Baseball Player today. Maybe we should take a good look at how they are being coached and the environment they are in every day before we look to our next top ranked recruiting class to save Shocker Baseball, or we will relive this senerio year after year.

The questions you ask, many of us are trying to figure out the same thing. This is what Tinkham had to say today

He hears criticism of WSU coaches from the stands and on social media and considers it unfair. Butler, in his mind, is a hard-working and caring coach. When the insomnia peaked and Tinkham battled a homesick spell in October, Butler allowed him to return to California and miss the Halloween scrimmage.

Butler invited Tinkham, and others, to his house for dinner last fall. Tinkham brought Butler’s wife, Melissa, a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers.
If the Shockers are relaxed and playing hard, Tinkham says, it’s because the coaches create that atmosphere even during a losing streak.

“I want to win so bad for that guy,” Tinkham said. “It’s hard to sit here and listen to some of the things, because it’s not fair to him. It’s on us as players to get the job done. You can tell he cares. He puts us before himself.”
